A forest they promise you at Forest Camping Mozirje, and a forest they most certainly deliver – a most scenic one, packed with wise old trees and on the banks of the scenic Savinja river. This is a prime spot for those seeking a peaceful place to chill out, as that riverbank has a goodly collection of places to try your fishing luck, and a little beach area for swims, sunbathing and snoozes. In need of a book to help while away those hours? Peruse the shelves of the library to find your next page-turner. That said, it’s also a prime Savinjska spot for those seeking rather more activity, for the folk on site are pals with peeps who can sort days of rafting, canyoning, kayaking, paragliding and other adventuresome antics. Hiking trails are nearby too, and you can rent bikes if you prefer to pedal around at your own pace. In the market for more once back at base? The site’s got plenty to keep you moving, including a playground, a basketball court and a small football pitch, and conjures up a cracking collection of activities including art workshops, speed-minton (yup, that’s very fast badminton) and learning to take your first steps in slacklining. Once dusk falls, you’ll often find guests gathering by the communal campfire for chats and swapping local tips. For eats, the finest choice is to catch trout in the river and grill them over open coals. If you didn’t have a successful day with your rod, you’ll not starve – the shops and restaurant of Mozirje are five minutes away by car.

Grand spot altogether, lovely scenery, spotless and great facilities like eco-showers and a proper kitchen. Staff are sound, always a warm welcome. Great for a chill or a bit of exploring, though a touch of road noise and a few boggy or sloped pitches mentioned. They're planning upgrades too.

Liked The most friendly personnel: We arrived late, and instead of closing down on us, they called and waited. Then we got a great introduction/tour around the camp. Then we got a welcoming drink. Everything is available: Impressive and enjoyable showers, super clean, many activities (table tennis, badminton, basketball, hammocks), freely available kitchen with free spices, freely available sink. Beautiful view of the stars. Very modern.

Liked Sehr freundliches Personal, super sanitäre Anlagen, Zeltstelle war auch toll.
Es gibt ein großes Angebot für Freizeitaktivitäten, Bäckerservice... Baden im Fluss ist auch möglich.

Disliked Der Wald ist relativ dicht, sodass nur wenig Sonne hinkommt. Die Straße auf der anderen Flussseite nervt total.Ab 4 Uhr morgens herrscht reger LKW Verkehr.

Liked One of the best campsites we’ve ever stayed at. A warm welcome and hard working team who go above and beyond to make sure every need is catered for. Excellent facilities (loved the outdoor showers!), delicious morning bread and pastries, and lots of fun tubing on the river. Can’t recommend this place highly enough

Local attractions

Farming and logging have kept this area going for many a year, and as a result traditional timber rafting can still be seen from time to time. If you’re tackling some of the region’s whitewater rapids though, you’d be best going out armed with something a tad more modern: a chat with site staff can get you sorted with rafting outings and other adventures including canyoning and paragliding. For something gentler, take to the calmer waters of Velenjsko Jezero lake (20 minutes’ drive) to potter about on a paddleboard, windsurfer or small boat, or pick a trail to ramble or ride along – there are plenty in this region of the Kamnisko-Savinja Alps. The Logarska valley (40 minutes’ drive) is a lovely place for a walk, as are Velenje Castle (25 minutes) and the fab flower-filled gardens in Mozirje. For a break from all the alfresco antics, try the kid-friendly Coal Mining Museum of Slovenia (20 minutes) or descend into Hell Cave (30 minutes), where you might just spot the devil himself lurking among the rocks if you look very carefully…
