A beach break in the landlocked Lot region? It may sound like a myth, but in fact it’s the rather lovely reality for guests at Camping Le Sequoia. This family-friendly site in the Dordogne Valley has its own natural lagoon with a sandy beach area and gorgeous views over the surrounding scenery – a fabulous spot for a paddle, a peaceful dip or some sunbathing time.
And that’s not the only option for guests who fancy a swim while they’re here – there’s also an extensive waterpark with a heated indoor pool, a large outdoor pool, a paddling pool and waterslides.
That’s likely to fill a fair few hours for younger members of your family, but they’ll probably also want to leave some time for the miniature golf, the playground and the kids’ club activities (available in high season). Meanwhile, grownups can head to the spa to use the hot tub and sauna, sign up for a massage or play a couple of games of pétanque. Fitness activities (including yoga and walks), sports tournaments, local excursions and evening entertainment are also on the menu in July and August.
When it’s time to eat, head to the poolside restaurant, pick up quick meals from the snack bar or find sweet treats at the ice cream parlour. You can also order your daily bread and pastries from the bakery.
If you’ve got any time left after all those on-site activities, it should be pretty easy to fill it – this site just outside Payrac is well placed for trips to Rocamadour, the Gouffre de Padirac and Sarlat-la-Canéda, as well as hikes or canoe trips.

Local attractions
Not had enough activity yet? Go canoeing or kayaking on the Dordogne river (20 minutes' drive), go horse riding from Soucirac (10 minutes) or clamber up into the trees at Accrobranche Le Bois des Elfes (15 minutes). There are also lots of hikes and bike rides around (ask on site for handy tips).
Big-hitting attractions nearby include the impressive Gouffre de Padirac (40 minutes), where you can take an underground boat trip, and the Lascaux caves (55 minutes), known for their ancient paintings. Prehisto Dino Park (20 minutes) and Animal Park of Gramat (half an hour) are also good options for family days out.
Fancy dialling down the pace a bit? Pick a pretty village, take a stroll, enjoy the views and see what you can find in the local markets and restaurants – places like Rocamadour (half an hour), Autoire (45 minutes) and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (55 minutes) all fit the bill, and Sarlat-la-Canéda (40 minutes) a good option for somewhere a bit bigger.
