Looking for a peaceful hideaway in Limousin? Somewhere to chill with family or friends? And with lots of space on a leafy property? Get yourselves along to Le Petit Part Glamping, five minutes’ drive from the sleepy hamlet of Nouziers in the Creuse. Tucked into an apple orchard, this mini-glamping site easily sleeps up to three guests in each of the roomy, well-furnished tents. Handy facilities include modern bathrooms – one for each tent – and a spacious undercover area where you have a well-equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge and freezer, a cosy sofa for lounging around on, and a dining table that nattily converts into a pool or table-tennis table to keep the kids occupied. You can also borrow yoga mats, games and books on site, and there’s a small pool for refreshing on warmer days as well as woodburners in each tent for when it’s a bit chilly. Le Petit Part Glamping is mostly powered by solar energy, and the owners grow their own organic vegetables and fruit. In addition to country views from the tents, there’s lots of birdlife around for you to check out, rural walks or bike rides starting from the pitches, and the darkest of dark skies on cloudless nights – just the job for stargazing.

Local attractions

Keen hikers will be chuffed to learn that the Grande Randonnée 6 walking trail from the Gironde to the Alps goes right past the site, while cyclists can enjoy the network of bike paths that criss-cross Limousin. You can also go fishing for carp at Alder Lake (20 minutes’ drive), try your hand at kayaking on the River Creuse (half an hour) or play a round of golf on the 18-hole course at Pouligny-Notre-Dame (10 minutes). If you’d care to sneak a little culture into your holiday timetable, head for the Valley of the Painters (35 minutes) to see the dramatic riverine scenery that inspired Impressionists painters such as Claude Monet. Alternatively, tour the grand manor house that once belonged to notorious 19th-century author George Sand (half an hour) to see period rooms liberally crammed with her belongings and the study in which she worked. If that sounds like too much hard work for the kids, take them banger racing on the track at Circuit de La Châtre (25 minutes), or surprise them with wild wolf encounters at Les Loups de Chabrières animal park (40 minutes).
