- Simple site on a farm five minutes’ drive from Vivario in Haute-Corse
- GR20 Fortin de Pasciola and mountain biking accessed from the pitches
- Shop selling charcuterie and wine; restaurant five minutes’ drive
If you want to get right into the rural centre of Corsica and stay somewhere a little bit offbeat, have a look at Charcuterie U Ponte. This no-frills site has grass pitches with natural shade and spectacular views of the Haute-Corse countryside, but more unusually, it’s on a cattle and pig farm surrounded by the holm oaks, alders and chestnut trees of the wild Corsican maquis.
If you’re chasing the chance to recharge your batteries, you’ll certainly do that here. Practical facilities may only stretch to portable toilets (that means no showers and no electricity) but there’s a shop on site selling delicious produce from the farm, including charcuterie, veal and top-quality chestnut flour. Island-made wines and beers are also available for a real taste of artisanal Corsica.
To sample all this local bounty, you can buy charcuterie lunch baskets from the shop or dine in the restaurant affiliated to the farm, which is in the centre of Vivario village. The site owners offer a free shuttle there and back for the five-minute car journey, although it only takes 20 minutes on foot.

Local attractions
You may of course prefer to hang out on site sampling all the charcuterie, but there’s plenty hereabouts to keep you busy. If you’re up for a challenge, Europe’s toughest long-distance walk, the 180-km GR20 Fortin de Pasciola, passes by the farm so you can hike sections taking you up into the Haute-Corse mountains.
Other sporting options include mountain biking on steep and winding lanes through the cork oak forest, or wild swimming and canyoning on the Rivier Vecchio (10 minutes’ drive). If you’re visiting in winter, try out the ski slopes at Ghisoni (an hour), which transform into a walking area in summer.
When you’re travelling with kids, they can expend energy on the rope-climbing courses at Tree Adventure Park Vizzavona (15 minutes, June to September only). For a change of pace, take a family trek through the wild mountain scenery and across rivers on horseback (half an hour).
