  • Scenic and spacious site on the banks of the Saône, 5km from the A6
  • Among trees and greenery with free leisure centre access next door
  • Waterside bar-restaurant, playground, fishing, shop and summer events
Swans, you say? And perhaps also a pretty pontoon for plonking yourself down on for evening idling, feet in the water as the sun sets? Sure you do. And so, book a stay at Burgundy's Camping La Clé de Saône, where you can have the lot, before retreating a mere few steps to a roomy waterside pitch. You may of course opt not to have a waterside pitch when here, and pas de probleme if so: guests can pick from shaded delimited pitches instead, or ones nearer to the amenities. (If you do crave pitching up by the river, however, let the site know when you book so they can accommodate you if there's room.) And that river? It's the Sâone, flowing past Camping La Clé de Saône on its 473-kilometre run from the Vosges mountains all the way along to Lyon. You can idle hours away on the site grounds while eyeing up swans from the pontoon; riverside lushness will also be easily yours when you amble to the bar-restaurant for meals, drinks and ice cream right at the water's edge. If that's not quite enough water for you, a lake is next to the site too, with free access to its facilities for Camping La Clé de Saône guests – as well as to the leisure centre next door. You'll also be within nifty reach of easy exploring: Camping La Clé de Saône's setting a few minutes' drive from the Saône-et-Loire village of Crêches-sur-Saône is five kilometres from the Mâcon exit of the A6, at the foot of the Beaujolais and Mâconnais mountains and close to the Burgundy vineyards. Other facilities include a playground, wifi, tourist info at reception, a food shop, and summer events such as pétanque competitions and themed evenings.

What customers say

Lovely campsite, good location, friendly staff, and spacious pitches. River access with slides is a bonus. Cafe and restaurant got good reviews. Mostly quiet, but some noisy neighbours for a few. A small number mentioned cleanliness concerns and unhelpful management.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Everything
When we came there were a lot of holes in the ground of the terein. Very long and deep ones. My little dog fell and he het his pas immediatly in the same evening. Myself i cant walk really far due to health issues and they told us ot would be with a lake. It was nit even theirs and a lot of walking. My partner and I we tried to crash for one night and tried to compensate the other. They weerw as flexibele as a brick. We tried it for one night with a dog with a paw that needed attention and help. Niw we kniw he sprained his pas really bad. Back then, we didnt. We saw bugs all over the beds. The kids were screaming. They didnt want to sleep there. The windows wouldnt stay open without something inbetween. We use a full bottle of water. It was hot as hell so we needed to. But also this made it easier for bugs to get in.

After a few hours of trying to get some some shut eye. We wantend to leave and we packed all stuff in the middle of the night and left. It was discusting, horrible, not clean, the bed cracked and we fell true 2 times. There were no blinds in de living area. I would nog even stay here for free its hard to give them even one star.

Loggia 2 bedroom cabin

Loggia 2 bedroom cabin

Liked Easy one night stop over on our way to and from Italy. Lovely lake and slides located next to site.

Disliked Tiny onsite shop so don't rely on buying supplies from there! Gates don't open until 7 am which is later than some sites for those needing to get an early start. Varying levels of customer service given between our two stays.

Local attractions

The team thoroughly recommends trips around the famed Burgundy vineyards, as well as the many hiking and cycling routes in the region such as the seven-kilometre path via the local village and the Circuit VTT mountain bike trail twice crossing the Saône. Another heady trek is around the ancient landmark of the Rock of Solutré (20 minutes' drive away), a limestone escarpment just outside Mâcon that's been home to humans for over 55,000 years. It's surrounded by vineyards these days (but of course), so take some time to potter around those too – the vino you seek for souvenirs is the AOC Pouilly-Fuissé. There's a wine park around these parts as well, the Hameau Duboeuf at Romaneche-Thorins: get there within 20 minutes' drive for exhibitions, events and eight themed gardens. For restless offspring, the zoo, rides and waterslides of Touroparc are 10 minutes away.
