- Small alpine site with spectacular views of the Hohe Tauern mountains
- Hohe Tauern National Park five minutes’ drive; Mölltal 10 minutes
- Partially shaded pitches five minutes’ walk from the scenic Möll River
With a dramatic alpine setting on a dead-end road near the Raggas Gorge, Mölltal Glacier and Grossglockner, Camping Mölltal is a tiny Carinthia site in the Austrian Alps. It makes a convenient (and stunning) base for nature lovers, hikers and cyclists (and their dogs) looking to explore the Mölltal region, with mountain access direct from the pitches.
The handful of well-kept, fully serviced grass pitches are surrounded by greenery and partially shaded by mature trees. This picture-perfect site has spectacular views of the forested slopes of the Hohe Tauern range, and is five minutes’ walk from the clear, cold water of the Möll River for paddling, wild swims and fishing.
On the practical side, facilities include a small wooden shower and loo block, a washing-up area with hot water and drinking water taps, as well as waste disposal and recycling. If you’re into alfresco cooking, pick up bits for your barbecue in the small local supermarket (five minutes’ drive); otherwise head for the couple of schnitzel restaurants about the same distance away.

Local attractions
There is easy access to scenic mountain hiking trails in the Hohe Tauern National Park (five minutes’ drive) – keep an eye out for elusive chamois and marmots as you walk. Cyclists can follow a section of the Glockner Cycle Path up to the alpine village of Heiligenblut am Grossglockner (two hours by bike), or you might prefer to book high-octane activities like rafting and canyoning down the Möll River (five minutes’ walk).
You can also drive to stunning waterfalls like the Gössnitz (35 minutes’ drive), or clamber up the wooden steps through the steep ravine at Raggas Gorge (10 minutes).
It’s only 10 minutes’ drive to the Mölltal Glacier cable car, so you can head for the pistes at Mölltal Glacier in winter for snowboarding and skiing. During summer, the resort morphs into a hiking, biking and climbing hub from where you also ride horses through alpine pastures, play golf on the 18-hole course or challenge family to friendly tennis matches.
