  • Family-run Perthshire glampsite with views of cone-shaped Schiehallion
  • Aberfeldy 15 minutes’ drive; Cairngorms National Park half an hour
  • Luxury pods with underfloor heating; café and basics shop on site
It’s true to say that Glengoulandie Glamping has lucked out in several ways: the surroundings of this small, family-run Perthshire site are simply stunning, with the distinctive peak of Schiehallion forming the backdrop to your stay. The property is also midway between the Cairngorms and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs national parks (both about half an hour’s drive), while there’s easy access to hills for the Munro-baggers among you, and lochs for watersports and angling. The luxury pods at Glengoulandie are set in their own enclave to the north of the site, and have gorgeous views to the south and east. All have underfloor heating, fitted kitchenettes and wet rooms with showers. A small welcome pack (loo paper, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits) is offered to tide you over until you get to the shops in Aberfeldy (15 minutes’ drive), and the owners suggest bringing essentials like washing-up liquid, cooking oil and kitchen roll with you. There is parking for one car right next to each pod, with additional space in the main car park. You can soak up the views and appreciate the abundance of local wildlife from your private garden area, while taking advantage of being at an established holiday park with access to the shop and café (open every day in high season).

Local attractions

Whether you’re a hiker, climber, angler or cyclist, Glengoulandie is in pole position for your alfresco adventures. Scramble up the slopes of Schiehallion from your pod, or enjoy gentle rambles around Tay Forest Park (five minutes’ drive) with the kids – the trail to the Queen’s View (25 minutes) overlooking Loch Tummel is a particular favourite. Peaceful Loch Tay is a major hub for kayaking and fishing for trout and salmon (in season) around Killin (35 minutes). Challenging mountain biking trails start at Kenmore (15 minutes), and hardcore types can clamber up Ben Lawers (half an hour) and add it to their list of conquered Munros.

This corner of Perthshire also has culture by the bucketload… See how Iron Age settlers lived at the Scottish Crannog Centre (15 minutes), or tour the weaponry and art collections at impressive Blair Castle & Gardens (40 minutes), where the castle’s central tower dates from the 13th century. Scone Palace (an hour), former site of the crowning of Scottish kings, is also open for guided tours of its ornate apartments.
