Local attractions

Next door to Seton Sands Holiday Park is a beachful of rock pools to explore, with a glorious vista of the Firth of Forth. For those who prefer unbroken stretches of golden sand, there are some excellent examples just minutes’ drive away. Twelve miles from Seton Sands is the Scottish Seabird Centre, where visitors can take a seabird safari by boat, or get up close and personal with the local wildlife using the interactive cameras hidden amongst the colonies of nesting birds. You may see seals, dolphins or the occasional whale in addition to all the puffins and gannets. The area is a golfer’s paradise, with loads of beautiful municipal courses, plus renowned championship links such as Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry. Ramblers, meanwhile, converge on the beautiful Isle of Arran, where there are coastal and woodland paths, plus more arduous climbs such as Goat Fell. Drive across country to the port of Ardrossan to pick up a ferry. Edinburgh is packed with things to see and do: the Castle, Holyrood House, the Royal Yacht Britannia, fantastic galleries and museums, cosy cafés and pubs, and superb shopping. Luckily it’s only 18 miles from Seton Sands, so you don’t need to try and cram it all into a single visit... Heading south, just over the border is one of the UK’s best views: stately Bamburgh Castle, perched high on the rock above a wide sweep of golden sand and dunes. The nearby fishing village of Seahouses is the place to go for a boat trip to the Farne Islands, keeping your eyes peeled for seals and seabirds en route; on your return you can wander around the ancient streets and take in the sights and sounds of the harbour. Finally, the fetching town of Alnwick is popular with history buffs and a wizard day out for Harry Potter fans: the medieval castle acted as the location for Hogwarts, and is a fascinating place to explore - there are guided tours and various interactive sessions, including broomstick training. Within the castle grounds is the contemporary Alnick Garden, with exciting cascades, a bamboo labyrinth and an enormous treehouse.
