  • Cosy self-contained huts on a working croft near Newtonmore
  • In Cairngorms National Park 10 mins' drive from Highland Wildlife Park
  • Close to National Cycle Route 7, with secure bike lock-up on site
Time to get cosy in the Cairngorms National Park – stays at Croft of Clune are in self-contained huts where you can stay warm, dry and comfortable whatever the Scottish weather throws at you. These peaceful private huts are part of a working croft, so expect lots of open outdoor space and some resident animals to meet while you’re here. And, of course, as you’re within the UK’s biggest national park there are fabulous mountain views to admire from the site and in the surroundings, too. The Cairngorms National Park is known for being wild and remote, but this site is in a convenient and easily accessed location, just off the A86 between Newtonmore and Kingussie. The A9 and National Cycle Route 7 are close by too, and there are railway stations in both the neighbouring towns. This spot puts you within easy reach of pubs, restaurants, shops and attractions like the Highland Folk Museum. You’ll be handily placed for all sorts of activities as well, with things like golf, canoeing and fishing (on the River Spey) close by. There are plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails around the area too, and guests travelling on two wheels have access to a secure bike lock-up on site. Each of the huts has a small collection of kitchen kit inside (including a kettle for that all-important cuppa), and they’re heated to make sure you stay toasty in all seasons. A shared toilet and shower block is a short walk from the huts.

Local attractions

You won’t have to stray far at all to start exploring the area – National Cycle Route 7 passes very close to the croft and the River Spey is a short walk away for fishing. Golfers can tee off at Newtonmore Golf Club (three minutes’ drive) or Kingussie Golf Club (five minutes), and there’s a canoeing and kayaking tour operator just across the road. Those who like a good uphill challenge should find plenty of options at nearby locations like Ben Macdui, Cairn Toul and the Pools of Dee. Meanwhile, those in search of more leisurely days out can head to the Highland Folk Museum (10 minutes’ walk) or meet native and exotic animals at Highland Wildlife Park (10 minutes’ drive). Fancy a little something to warm up a chilly Scottish evening? Pay a visit to Speyside Distillery (10 minutes; by appointment only) or book a tour of Dalwhinnie Distillery (20 minutes) – either one will allow you to buy a bottle of top-notch whisky to sip back at base.
