  • A short drive from the Waterford Greenway; Dungarvan 25 minutes’ drive
  • Communal area with cooking facilities; shop 10 minutes' drive
Are you already exploring or soon to arrive in Waterford? Take a look at Crotty’s Lake Camping – a handsome spot indeed, and one that will surely act as an excellent base for exploring Copper Coast beaches, cycling through the countryside and hiking green slopes overlooking lakes. Secure and private, Crotty’s Lake Camping has direct access to Crotty’s Lake (no swimming permitted), a spectacular lake surrounded by tall hills. The owner is on hand to meet guests and answer any questions you may have, or give advice on local things to do. And the surrounding area certainly has an impressive line-up of attractions. Within 15 minutes’ drive of the site is the Waterford Greenway, a 46-kilometre cycling trail on a former railway line, passing over three viaducts and the river Suir before ending at the Copper Coast. The endpoint for the Waterford Greenway is the harbour town of Dungarvan, otherwise 25 minutes’ drive away from the site. Several Copper Coast beaches are also within half an hour’s drive of the site. Facilities on site are well maintained – the communal area includes a toilet, a 'wild' (off-grid) shower and cooking facilities. The nearest shop is 10 minutes’ drive away if you need to source ingredients for your meals.

What customers say

Lovely mountain campsite, semi-wild feel, stunning views, peaceful. Hosts Bernard & Joe are brilliant. Great pitches, nice Crotty's Lake hike. Basic facilities, honesty shop. A few minor notes on loos & streams, but nearly everyone's raving about it and wants back!

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The Owner is so lovely. We ended up having a camper breakdown near your so polite. We had to change the date before we arrived even before the camp van broke down he was helpful. We would recommend him in terms of a service. We did not stay there but the review sounds lovely.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked I liked the quirkiness of this site and the views (which I walked to) and the fact it’s in a forest. It was also very quiet - except for the sound of rain and wind!
Visited in mid September so it was not at all busy with not many other visitors.
Can’t fault the location in the mountains - beautiful.
The chap on duty (Joe?) could not have been more helpful.

Disliked I really wanted to love this place but the weather unfortunately didn’t help and I felt lucky to find a gravelly pitch (grass with gravel) that wasn’t too wonky, I don’t think there are many choices in wet weather though so I’m glad it wasn’t busy.
There isn’t a good hose system for campervans who need that but luckily I carry lots of attachments and we sorted it out. Maybe a proper outside tap would be useful?!
A clearer sign at the crossroads on the way up where the big carpark is would also help!

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Great rural site. On the base of the hill, between pinetrees and wildlife. We had lots of spots to choose from, but because of the weight and size of the campervan we decided to not go up behind the hut. We were welcomed very warmly and got instructions to how to walk up to the lake best. We had a great, very peaceful stay and we can recommend this for everyone who loves staying in pure nature.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The wildness of the site.
That it can hardly be called a 'site'...more a mountainside pitch with basic facilities should you want them down the hill.
The walk to the lake.
The people, both staff and campers.
The whole experience - just go there :)

Disliked Zilch (though see below, the loo and kitchen area could do with a good clean... even if you're living in the wilds clean facilities feel good!)
