  • Small and peaceful family-run site on Kerry's Beara peninsula
  • Derreen Gardens, Lake Glenmore and Healy Pass within 10 minutes' drive
  • On-site kitchen with oven and fridge; a 10-minute drive from the pub
It's worth going way out west for this gem of the Emerald Isle. And in fact you can’t actually go much further west: Creveen Lodge Caravan and Camping Park is on the Beara peninsula, a 48-kilometre-long jetty of Kerry (and a bit of Cork) pointing into the Atlantic: next stop, Canada. Wild this part of Ireland may be (it’s the bottom end of the 2500-kilometre Wild Atlantic Way route), but the family team at Creveen Lodge offers a civilised base for your scenic stays. Amenities include a communal kitchen, with hob, oven, fridge freezer and microwave; you can cosy up there watching TV by the fire too when the weather suggests it. There’s a café (with bike hire, what a brill combo…) five minutes’ drive away in Lauragh; it’s 10 minutes to the pubs in Bunaw and half an hour to supermarkets in the Beara’s unofficial capital of Castletownbere. For a quick intro to the area, stop for a cuppa in seaside Lauragh, hire a bike and pedal off round the coast to Derreen Gardens, where paths lead through 60 acres of gardens full of subtropical plants and down towards the sea with grand views of the Caha mountains. If you head the other way out of Lauragh, it’s a 20-minute ride to the 3,000-year-old Cashelkeelty Stone Circle (15 minutes by car from the site).

What customers say

Lovely, peaceful spot on the Beara Peninsula, with great views. Owners are sound, and pitches are grand. Kitchen's grand but a bit old-fashioned. Dogs welcome. Perfect for a quiet break and exploring.

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Comprehensive kitchen facilities - somewhere to sit and eat, pots, pans, kettle, cooker all provided and it appeared that other guests respected the shared space.

Disliked Only a single token-operated shower per block. Thankfully it wasn't busy when we were there but could be a problem at busy times.

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really enjoyed our time in Creveen Lodge. Such a beautiful spot … amazing scenery, so tranquil and a great place to chill while touring on the Beara Peninsula. Facilities simple but more than adequate. Weather wasn’t great while we were there so we spent a good bit of time around the campsite and had great chats in the kitchen with fellow travellers.

Disliked Nothing !

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fantastic setting on a quiet campsite. Easy to check in with friendly owners and we were given an option for our pitch location, where we chose a quiet pitch on overflow field as we had our two dogs with us on our first camping trip.
Clean kitchen, washing up place and toilets.
Found Helen's bar a short drive away for great evening meal sitting on fishing pier.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your great review and hope to see ye again. Actually we have wifi closer to our house but as the area is so vast we cannot have it everywhere.

Local attractions

Beara remains a bit of a secret, a frontier land of deserted beaches, colourful fishing villages and ancient stone circles underneath the hefty Caha mountains. Get stuck in with a 10-minute drive to Glenmore Lake, a fine fishing spot surrounded by walking trails, where you’ll only be disturbed by the odd wild deer. To see the whole peninsula and beyond, drive past the lake to Healy Pass; stop at the 330-metre summit to see one of the finest views in the west stretching to the high mountain ranges of Co Kerry. To feel you’ve earned the view rather than just driven to it, walking paths up Mount Knockatee start 20 minutes from the site. If all that sea’s got your maritime spirits a-rising, try diving in Lauragh and kayaking and sea safaris to the seal colonies from Kenmare, half an hour away. If you’re more into walking by the waters, join the 200-kilometre Beara Way in Lauragh, a clearly signed and mostly coastal trail beginning and ending in the Gulf Stream-warmed village of Glengarriff (40 minutes). For those wanting to wander west until the land’s run out, there’s a treat at the tip of the Beara: an hour’s drive to Ballaghboy ends up by a cable car. Take the giddying 10-minute trip across open ocean to Dursey Island for the wildest and westest walking you can do.
