- Scenic and peaceful site on the stunning Wild Atlantic Way
- A 15-minute drive from Carndonagh and 20 minutes from Buncrana
- Tullagh Bay and Pollan beaches within 10 minutes’ drive
Do peaceful hols in the northernmost reaches of Ireland, in the wild countryside by the shores of the North Atlantic Sea, sound simply heavenly? Then head along to Binion Bay Caravan Park, a family-run and family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the Inishowen village of Clonmany in Donegal.
On the route of the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way – a 2,500-kilometre driving route from Malin Head (40 minutes away) to Kinsale (in Cork) – this site’s well-placed for both quick pitstops and longer stays. Dog owners and avid hill walkers will be chuffed too, as it’s at the foot of Binion Hill (with stunning views from the summit), five minutes from walks to Glenevan Waterfall, and within 15 minutes of hikes on Reachtain Mhór, Bulbin, Dunaff and the Urris Hills.
Proximity to sandy stretches is an added boon, with Tullagh Bay and Pollan beaches both within 10 minutes of the site and Lagg and its sand dunes half an hour away. During warmer months, dip toes in the North Atlantic (remembering, of course, that warm weather doesn’t mean warm sea) or bask in the Donegal sun, while colder days can be spent wrapped up tight for wanders along the sand.
Cold chilled everyone to the bone? Head back to the site to thaw by the campfire, then head into Carndonagh, 15 minutes away, to pick up supplies at the supermarkets before settling back in next to the fire with eats now smouldering on the barbecue.

Local attractions
For those who want to stay active, but in a leisurely manner, the site’s well-placed for low-energy activities. A 10-minute drive from base will see wannabe Shane Lowrys, and Leona and Lisa Maguires, at play at the home of the Dubai Irish Open, Ballyliffin Golf Club, while a 25-minute journey places those angling for a peaceful time at Eddie Fullerton Reservoir for brown trout fly-fishing.
History buffs have plenty to explore nearby too: Doagh Famine Village is 15 minutes away, and a must-visit open-air museum for anyone interested in learning the unvarnished truth of rural Irish life since the 1840s. For forays further back in time, try a visit to Grianán of Aileach, 40 minutes from the site – there are spectacular views from the megalithic hillfort – then bounce back to the 19th century at Fort Dunree Military Museum.
If retail therapy is beckoning, it’s 20 minutes by car to Buncrana – a seaside resort town with shops, pubs, cafés and seafood restaurants – or 50 minutes to the city of Derry/Londonderry (over the border in Northern Ireland), where there’s a large shopping centre, as well as manor houses, an aquarium, and numerous museums and sites relating to the Troubles.
