What customers say

Friendly, eco-friendly cider farm with ample pitches, great facilities. Bell tents a hit. Cider barn with live music & food on Fridays is buzzing, though some found Friday music a bit loud. Composting toilets a talking point, with varied opinions.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The field is spacious, and has the option for social activities if here on the right days. The facilities were really clean, and having access to a kitchen with fridge, kettle and hobs were appreciated. The option to rent a fire pit is also a bonus.

Disliked We heard good things about the events and were looking forward to it but missed out on it because of a wedding. It would have been nice to know in advance if the events are not running for such reasons.

Niamh's Hideaway shepherd's hut

Liked The Shepherd's hut is perfectly located at the edge of the site - and actually in an adjacent field next to a stream, so great for seclusion and privacy.
The Cider Barn was brilliant, locals of all ages enjoying the music, food and most importantly, the fantastic real cider, sweet, medium and dry, though a range of other drinks also to be fair.
On the Saturday, the barn was closed (as advertised) but the beautifully quaint West Chinnock village is just a scenic 15-20 minute walk through the fields, via public paths, the Muddled Man pub, not to be missed for its colouful hanging baskets, garden, stonework, ales, really good food...and the not to be forgotten, landlord and son!

Staff really friendly, helpful and accommodating, greeting on arrival, providing extra blankets and allowing us to buy more of their excellent real cider when we left on Sunday morning.

Disliked It was really cold the first night (despite it being August!) but see above.
Composting toilets might not be for everyone - but that's the experience of camping in rural Somerset!

Bell tent (basic)

Liked It was easy to relax quickly into our camping experience at North Down Farm, our first family camping experience in years. A warm welcome from the owner, the bell tents with blow-up beds and having kitchen facilities on site helped make it an stress-free camping experience whilst feeling ‘at one’ with nature. We enjoyed the home made cider! We will be back! Thank you!

Local attractions

The scenery around here is rather pretty, so it all lends itself to getting out for a walk – perhaps in the Blackdown Hills to the east or the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south. Destinations of choice include places like Evershot (20 minutes’ drive), the village that inspired much of Thomas Hardy’s writing, and the huge Cerne Abbas Giant (35 minutes) carved into the chalk hillside. And of course it’s also not far to get down to the Jurassic Coast for visits to West Bay (35 minutes) and Lyme Regis (40 minutes) – the latter being a great place to find fishing boat trips. Elsewhere along the coast are Beer Quarry Caves and Abbotsbury Swannery/Subtropical Gardens (both 50 minutes). For other days out, find out more about the area’s favourite tipple at Perry’s Cider Mills (15 minutes), meet wild beasts at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (35 minutes) or take a tour of Forde Abbey House and Garden (20 minutes).
