The campsite

  • Peaceful, rural site surrounded by woodland on the Jurassic Coast Path
  • Within five minutes’ walk of Ringstead Bay, a dog-friendly beach
  • On a working dairy farm with a shared fridge and freezer; café nearby
Opening for the first time in 2025, this peaceful family friendly site is located adjacent to the Jurassic Coast path. It is a 5 minute walk to the beautiful and dog friendly Ringstead Bay. A perfect location for swimming, paddle boarding, small boat launching off the shingle beach, windsurfing and surfing. Children can also enjoy rock pooling from the reefs. There are very few campsites in Dorset, so close to the sea. This 2.5 acre, grass campsite is relatively flat and campers can choose their own pitch. Tent size is unlimited and parking next to your pitch is allowed. Unfurnished bell tents are also available for hire. The field is very sheltered and secluded with woodland on three sides. The campsite has toilets, showers and washing up sinks. Drinking water is also available on site. Campers can also enjoy the use of a shared fridge and freezer as well as 8 lockable electricity charging points for small devices. These are located at The Armoury and are free for campers to use. Fires are permitted as long as they are raised off of the ground. Located on site is a dog exercise area where they can be off the lead. There is also immediate access to footpaths from the Campsite. Access to the site is via a private road through woodland. Glimpses of the sea, Weymouth Bay and the Isle of Portland can be seen through the trees on the southern boundary and the sound of the sea can be heard. A 10 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the site finds the Reef cafe and shop with a play area for children. On offer is a fabulous choice of food ranging from freshly made breakfast baps, classics such as scampi and fries and delicious wood-fired pizzas with locally sourced ingredients. Dining in and takeaway are available and they also stock basic camping essentials. The site forms part of a working dairy farm and this particular field used to be home to an American military establishment. Close by are the original bunkers, outbuildings and look out from World War Two.

What customers say

A grand spot, a short stroll from a quiet cove and scenic coastal walks, with breathtaking sea vistas. Reviewers rave about the spotless facilities, roomy pitches, and wonderfully kind staff. Handy extras like fridge/freezer access and charging lockers get a shout-out. Just a bit of uneven ground and facility placement to note, with upgrades in the pipeline.

Bell tent

Liked The location is excellent, with direct access to Ringstead Bay and some stunning views along the Jurassic Coast. It's a fantastic base for paddleboarding, kayaking, bodyboarding and swimming, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sea without needing to drive anywhere. The site itself is peaceful and has a relaxed atmosphere, making it easy to switch off and unwind. Whilst the facilities are fairly basic, they were clean and perfectly adequate for what we needed.

Disliked The biggest drawback is the lack of mobile phone signal, which may be an issue for some visitors. There are also no shops or facilities nearby, so it's worth arriving well stocked with food, drinks and any essentials you might need. If you forget something, you'll be looking at a drive of around 10–15 minutes to pick up supplies.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Second visit and am already looking forward to the third.

Emma was amazing and constantly went above and beyond, always happy to help.

Facilities are always clean and the showers are great.

I love the walk through the woods to what feels like your own private section of beach, scorchio half term and still had so much space, beautiful views and water.

Took my little sailing dinghy out and again Emma was there to empart her wisdom and advice upon me, it was much needed.

See you again in the summer!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly staff, toilets and showers cleaned very regularly throughout the day.
5 mins away from the beach with easy access! Nice walk to the nearby pub that was great!
Fridge and freezer avaliable for shared use if needed and charging lockers very helpful for phones.
Loved that you can have raised campfires, this is a good selling point as some places don't allow for any fires.

Disliked No phone reception (we understand this is not the campsites fault)

Local attractions

Those who pack their walking boots can have a nice time mapping out potential routes. There’s a stunning route east to White Nothe (less than an hour’s walk). Osmington Mills (15 minutes’ walk or 10 minutes’ drive) and a popular 17th-century pub are in the other direction. Walk further west to reach Bowleaze Cove and Weymouth’s sandy beach and attractions like an aquarium and miniature golf. Driving to Lulworth (25 minutes)? Pay a visit to the abandoned village of Tyneham (half an hour), which can be visited when the firing ranges are closed, or take a round-about route to The Tank Museum (20 minutes) and Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes). If you’re going west by car, perhaps consider touring the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (35 minutes), Lyme Regis (an hour) and West Bay (45 minutes), the filming location for Broadchurch.
