You may think that camping and luxury don’t really belong together – but here’s a place that aims to dispel such ideas. You’ll have to bring your own tent (and some food, drink and clothes) when you stay at The Orchard Retreat, but other than that pretty much everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided.
If you’ve ever turned your nose up at the idea of campsite bathrooms, there’s some excellent news here – this mid-Devon site has a private lockable bathroom for each pitch, with a toilet, sink and shower plus extras like towels, a hairdryer and hand soap. You’ll also be able to book a session in the ‘Hidden Tubhouse’, a private open-topped bathroom with two cast iron baths, for a soothing soak in the open air.
And the facilities don’t stop there… the site also has a shared kitchen (with cooking facilities, fridges, pots and pans, crockery, washing-up liquid, teabags and pretty much everything else you may need), a laundry area, charging facilities and a games room with sofas and a pool table. Outside, you may like to play badminton, cosy up by the communal firepit or hire the cob pizza oven to create your own tasty pizzas (extra charge applies; book upon arrival).
Heading out to explore the local area, you can get to the local farm shop (with a café and PYO) in about 10 minutes’ walk, or the village pub in about 20 minutes. Crediton (10 minutes’ drive) has bigger shops and supermarkets, and Exeter is about 20 minutes’ drive away.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.- The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
- Facilities/activities including pizza oven are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.
- No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.
- At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.
