  • Peaceful, family-friendly glampsite with stunning North Devon views
  • Barnstaple and Exmoor National Park both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Luxurious bell tent with vintage décor and handcrafted furniture
Here’s a rare opportunity indeed: the chance to camp on a working West Country cider farm – and to camp in considerable style too. For starters, accommodation at Ostlers Glamping and Camping is in a luxuriously appointed bell tent set on decking overlooking the spectacular valleys of North Devon. In addition, you’ll have the place to yourself, with no-one else nearby and little to disturb the peace other than birdsong. The tent is furnished in vintage style and has everything you need for comfort: double and single beds (more can be added), seating, storage, cosy rugs and bedding. There are also power points, a shower, loo and kitchen facilities, plus extensive decking with a barbecue for leisurely alfresco feasts on summer evenings. If the weather should take a turn for the worst, you can seek refuge in the indoor games room in the indoor barn, which also has cooking facilities. The on-site equestrian arena doubles as a football pitch or soft play area for the kids, and you’re welcome to explore the surrounding farm. If you have a love of horses, please ask the owner to graze their horses Bob and Cleo in the field in front of your tent. For local forays, there’s a friendly village pub in Goodleigh, and craft workshops at The Growforward Project, a community hub with a bistro and café. Both are half an hour’s stroll away.

Local attractions

The site is 15 minutes’ drive from Barnstaple, one of the UK’s oldest towns and home of the historic Pannier Market as well as a leisure centre and cinema for any rainy days. From there, you can also join the long-distance hiking and cycling Tarka Trail, or walk sections of the South West Coast Path for dramatic sea and clifftop views. Exmoor National Park (15 minutes by car) makes an easy day trip for hiking across the moor, cycling through rocky landscapes on the Exmoor Cycle Route and spotting Exmoor ponies feeding on the heather. The kids might enjoy a day of playing zookeeper at Exmoor Zoological and Conservation Centre (also 15 minutes), and you’ll all love crossing the River Barle over an ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps (45 minutes). The site is within 35 minutes’ drive of consistent waves at Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay and Putsborough Beach. All have board-hire shops if you’ve left your gear behind at home, and tuition is available for every level of ability.
