  • Peaceful pitches on a working farm just on the edge of Crowborough
  • A 15-minute drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells and Pooh Sticks Bridge
  • Close to Ashdown Forest walks; horse riding available on the farm
Beechenwood Farm is a peaceful East Sussex site on a working farm within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, about a mile from the centre of Crowborough. This handy location is a splendid one for walks as it’s close to Ashdown Forest, the inspiration behind Winnie the Pooh. A themed trail from Pooh Sticks Bridge around the bear’s favourite locations is highly likely to be a hit with kids and grownups alik). Horse riding’s popular around the forest too, and you can saddle up right there on the farm for your first horseback steps. Elsewhere locally you can have games of golf, hours at a bike park, vineyard wanders and rides on the Bluebell Railway; there are plenty of smart country estates and gardens to wander around as well. Barbecues are permitted on site for folk who’d like to try a bit of outdoor cookery; there are several supermarkets and independent shops in town for picking up all the bits. Takeaways, pubs and restaurants are all plentiful over there too if you’d rather someone else did the honours on the food front.

What customers say

A tranquil, roomy, back-to-basics farm campsite. Praised for welcoming owners, lovely views, and animal encounters. Basic facilities suit those wanting a "wild" feel. Some found it too basic or near town; a few reported noise issues from others.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely location walking distance from Crowborough Town and Crowborough Cross Weatherspoons. Wonderful nature setting with great views. Fire pit and wood supplied. Friendly and attentive owners. Shade around the outside of the field. Port-a-loo toilets. Trampolines and bikes for guests to use. Leisure centre with swimming pool and outdoor recreation facilities, bus route into Tunbridge Wells or Brighton via Uckfield and Lewes a short walk away.

Disliked £28 per night a little expensive for very basic facilities. No recycling or waste bins so you must take your rubbish home.

From the manager: Hi Tom thank you for your review. We strive to put the emphasis on peace and quiet, almost wild camping with the addition of our farm livestock to interact with if the campers so wish. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We booked Beechenwood at the very last minute heading into the Bank Holiday weekend not knowing what we would find due to the timing. What we found was a little slice of heaven with lambs thrown in for additional joy.

Donna runs a wonderful little site and offers the perfect amount of engagement in ensuring everyone is comfortable and enjoying themselves whilst keeping enough distance knowing people are on holiday.

- serene and peaceful
- basic facilities
- wonderful scenery and walking routes
- well managed site and farm

Disliked - all I could add is I wish there was an additional tap and maybe a worktop as the bending down and water going on the floor could lead to a bit of mess in the wetter months but this isn't a dislike

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Our stay at Beechenwood was brilliant.
We went in the rain and wind to test out our new tent, the field was huge so we had plenty of space away from other campers. My children are loud so this was perfect for us.
The owners of the farm are lovely, they made us feel welcome straight away, we was allowed to explore the farm and go and hold some baby lambs. During our stay we witnessed one of their sheep give birth! Myself and my children was amazed by this, what an incredible experience!!!
After witnessing life being brought into this world we went off to see the horses.
This place is definitely more on the wild camping side which I think is great, it’s very cheap to stay here and the porter loo that was available was kept clean throughout our entire stay.
We will 100% be returning to this camp site so we can do some horse riding, and just because it was over all a wonderful camping trip!
You also have everything you need within walking distance or plenty of car parks if you wanted to drive. I would definitely recommend this place and we can’t wait to come back!

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike about this place

From the manager: Thank you so much Nicola for your review. We strive to teach the kids about the animals and nature and you certainly struck it lucky with the lamb being born!! Hopefully will have more time for the kids to ride the horses next time you come!! Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Spacious field on a running farm.

Disliked The site is probably nice if you come prepared for wild camping. The only facilities are two portaloos that weren’t clean

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Rick, we are disappointed you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We do advertise we are a working farm as alot of kids like coming here to meet the animals. We have always verged on the wild side of camping to protect the abundance of nature around us. The toilets are cleaned every day and emptied weekly, occasionally we do find loo roll on the floor etc but are quick to remedy it as soon as we can. Once again apologies but maybe a more commercial site would suit you better.

Simple but perfect.

Liked Don & Donna were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Their site is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views, my girls got to enjoy their trampolines, bikes & slides & we were even invited to meet the animals (including riding the horses & holding the baby lamb!) It made the whole experience one we won’t forget easily for all the right reasons!

Thank you so much, we will definitely be back!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a great time. The kids loved the trampolines and visiting the horses and we had a great time with the neighbours .

Disliked There’s cold running water but no wash/ shower facilities.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Natalie thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed our stay with us. We don't have the provision for showers unfortunately and don't advertise that we do have them. We are a back to nature site, quiet and peaceful. The leisure centre by our farm gate has showers, indoor swimming pool etc. too. We look forward to seeing you again😁🏕
