Camping field with far-reaching views
Spectacular fell views

  • Quiet and spacious off-grid Cumbria site at the foot of Hartside Pass
  • Kirkoswald shop five minutes’ drive; C2C route five minutes by bike
  • Stunning Lake District and Eden Valley views; dazzling dark skies
It’s all about the dramatic views at Parkhead Campsite, a spacious and peaceful Cumbrian site that’s off the beaten track yet well located for visits to the Lake District, North Pennines and Hadrian’s Wall. At this off-grid, pop-up site, facilities may be rudimentary – picnic tables and portable toilets – but any lack of creature comforts is forgotten in the face of spectacular views stretching from the Lake District and Eden Valley to Hartside Pass. You can park your vehicle next to your tent – and with no pre-determined pitches, the choice of where you set up is in your hands. As there’s no electricity, be prepared with torches for moving around after dark – and you’ll appreciate the stellar displays in clear night skies all the more as there’s virtually no light pollution. Firepits can be hired on site, and you can buy logs as well – but please note that the pitching area doubles as a livestock field out of camping season, so fires on the ground are not allowed. Dogs are welcome to join you on your Cumbria adventure, and all the site owners ask is that you clean up after them. The classic Coast to Coast cycle route runs close to the camping field, and there are lots of walks right from the pitches. You can experience the hospitality of local pubs and shop in the community store at Kirkoswald (five minutes’ drive), and there are outdoor swimming pools in Lazonby and Hunsonby (both 10 minutes).
