What customers say

A lovely, well-kept site with plenty of room. Grand views & handy for getting about. The Fox Inn on-site got top marks for grub and staff. Toilets/showers across the road are clean but can be busy. The pub's opening hours are a bit short, but great for a bite.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Thank you Sid and the team.......a small campsite on the way home from the Lake District to Newcastle.

The Fox Inn Pub was a great surprise. Only open weekends but the food and atmosphere was excellent.....thank you.

Disliked I walked around the campsite and picked up some litter left by other campers.....

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Good-sized pitches with ample water points available. Very quiet at night with very little noise in the day as well.
The pub opposite (believe the site owner runs it) only opens occasionally, but it has very good food.

Disliked One grievance, (am I being petty) is that although you may be parked on a hard standing that when they cut the grass it dries and gets carried into your van.
Toilets and showers are across the road behind the pub.y

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Clean, quiet little site didn’t get there until 8pm due to accident on the M6. Left 9am the next morning.

Disliked Push buttons on the shower I understanding that they can get left on but it was a pain. Husband said the men’s shower room/toilet was not great!

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked A small, quiet site opposite The Fox public house. Excellent food and beer. Very popular, only open Friday Saturday and Sundays.

Disliked This site could be so much better with a little TLC.

The site is on the otherside of the road from the toilets and facilities. Not much can be done with this, but for safety, the hedge could be cut back and warning signs placed on the road and exit from the site.

The drinking water tap in tucked away behind the gate, a broken notice sort of tells you where it is.

Our main issue concerns the toilets. Lots of hot water, two large combined shower and toilet rooms for each sex. BUT , not once during our four night stay were any of the showers/toilets cleaned! The men's toilet blocked and nearly flooded the room.

None of the bins in either the kitchen or toilets were emptied.

For £27 a night, this is not good.

I dislike posting detrimental comments, but some one needs to get themselves upto speed.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site. Most of the site is occupied by seasonal caravans so even when capacity is full it’s not too busy as chances are some of the seasonal caravans will be empty. Couldn’t be closer to a pub if it tried. Pitches spacious enough. Free WiFi.

Disliked Not really a dislike but it is worth mentioning that the pub only serves food fri-sun. You need to drive to get anywhere as nothing really within walking distance.

Local attractions

This close to the Lake District, not spending any time on a lake would surely lead to a rather sinking feeling… There are lots of options nearby for boating trips, starting with Ullswater Steamers, 25 minutes’ drive away at Pooley Bridge, before puttering along to Keswick on Derwentwater 40 minutes away and the Lake Coniston gondola just under an hour and a half from base. Prefer those lake experiences to be had from dry land? The site’s less than 10 minutes from Blencarn Lake and its 15 acres of fly fishing – a lucky catch for some… When back on dry land, sweet treats await: Abbott Lodge Jersey Ice Cream is 25 minutes from base, where kids can spend time at the indoor and outdoor playgrounds while grownups tuck in to a healthy helping of homemade ice cream. Want to pencil in some more unusual outings? The Derwent Pencil Museum is 40 minutes away and (not to put too fine a point on it) comes highly recommended by the site team. If that doesn’t do it for the gang, try a visit to Trotters World of Animals, 50 minutes away, for hundreds of species – as well as bird of prey displays – or nab a ticket for a movie at the Rheged Centre (20 minutes), home of a six-storey-high cinema screen.
