Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

What customers say

A roomy, welcoming site in a lovely spot, great for Settle & walks. Clean facilities, helpful staff & a chilled vibe. Nice nature & value, though busy times can mean few facilities, long grass, or some noise.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Easy to find. Hot showers and flushing toilets. Plenty of toilet paper, and hand soap available. Drinking water available on tap. Soft grass to pitch on. Bins available.

Disliked Noisy campers playing guitar and singing off-key until the wee hours of the night. Toilet block too far away (and uphill) from pitches. Dirty portaloos, and mens toilets and showers. Pitches are in a valley which made my tent soaking wet in the morning, something to consider when picking a campsite next time.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site was relatively flat in a beautiful setting

Disliked The noisy factory/ haulage firm next door. Not a problem at the weekend but they did start work early on the Monday morning. Lots of clanging and banging and machinery noise from around 6.30 am

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We were next to the river which was peaceful and calm.

Disliked The toilet blocks are far too far away if you’re by the river. There was one portaloo nearby but that was absolutely filthy, full of feaces all weekend and not cleaned once it really was disgusting. Not really good enough and wouldn’t return due to this.
There’s also nothing on site so I think it’s overpriced for what it is.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice flat ground and option for quieter camping by the river. Good location and enjoyed the scenery. Saw lots of bunnies. Shower block clean.

Disliked Shower/toilet block quite a long walk from tent pitches especially by the river. Portaloo not the cleanest and Was completely full. Unfortunately really loud neighbours were really disruptive, had to move pitch to the riverside camping to get away from them. Clear designated quiet zone would be better.

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
