  • Single secluded adults-only shepherd's hut just outside Seamer
  • Cayton Bay beach 10 minutes' drive; 15 minutes to Scarborough
  • Lovely private outdoor space with firepit and open-air bath
Time to leave the rest of the world behind for a little while? Take a trip to The Shepherd’s Retreat, just outside the North Yorkshire village of Seamer, where a single adults-only shepherd’s hut sits in a quiet rural spot a couple of miles from the coast. Yes, that means you'll have this secluded spot all to yourselves, so you can soak up the lovely paddock views in peace and take a wander around to explore the medieval manor ruins in the next field at your leisure. When the night draws in, light the firepit, fill the fabulous outdoor bath and get set for a romantic evening looking up into the starry skies. The interior of the hut has been cleverly designed to get in lots of useful features including a comfy double bed, a private bathroom (with toilet and hot shower), a little workspace and a mini kitchen with gas hob. There’s also a handy dining table that converts into a cosy seating space by the woodburner. Solar panels provided enough electricity for things like phone charging, but won't support high-wattage devices like hair straighteners. This is a peaceful retreat, but it's also well located for getting out and about. You may like to cycle or walk along the Cinder Track (a former railway line linking Scarborough and Whitby), walk some of the Cleveland Way, go birdwatching at Bempton Cliffs or stroll along the sand at Cayton Bay. Castle Howard and Whitby Abbey are among the places to visit for history lovers.
