What customers say

Idyllic adults-only site with great walks. Clean facilities & a popular social space. Friendly owners, spacious, private pitches. A few sloped pitches & poor phone signal noted, but most love it & will be back.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Plenty of room on designated pitch. There are alot of bins dotted around the site. The shower block and toilets are very clean, well maintained and lots of hot water. The communal hut is a great idea having fridges and freezers was brilliant in the hot weather! Nice and peaceful location especially at night, we've never seen so many stars! Plenty of things to do outside the camp just a few minutes drive away.

Badger camping pod

Liked This is a beautiful, peaceful and well-run campsite. There are loads of trees surrounding the site, and there's is constant birdsong during the day. The site has a lovely pond and gardens, and it's very relaxing to hang out by the pond during the day and watch the rabbits and moorhens. It's walking distance to Wood Lane nature reserve (email about a permit in advance, or ask the campsite manager about accessing hides) and lots of meres, and it's just a short walk around Cole Mere to get onto the canal towpath - perfect for walking.

Badger camping pod was perfect for us. Really nice setting, loads of space inside, and plenty outside too to spread out with our camping chairs, fire pit etc. I'd love to come back, might bring our own tent next time as the pitches looked great!

Wifi 10 stars - it worked perfectly well in the communal areas and it was nice to have the option to stay connected if needed.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Quiet, peaceful site. Great for walks including a walk down the canal into Ellesmere. Communal lounge area with everything you could need. Brilliantly attentive owners, very clean toilets and facilities, set in lovely grounds right on the mere.

Disliked Could do with additional washing up facilities as it did get a bit busy with queues at times with it being a bank holiday. The use of a washing machine would have been good as I do like to get that done before heading home but that’s possibly a personal request

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jo lovely to meet you and your family .

Thanks for your review and feedback .

We feel that with two washing up areas that we have in situ are adequate , although it was busier than it has been over previous weeks due to the Bank holiday , nice weather with the approach to the end of the summer season nearing. We have honestly never experienced queues for washing up before which soon disbursed quickly !
We have no plans to put laundry facilities in place at this time . Sorry for any inconvenience caused .

Many thanks

Local attractions

There's stacks to do in the surrounding area, whether you want to stick close to home by foot or pedal, or drive a bit further afield to the towns, tourist attractions and landscapes of Shropshire, Cheshire and north-east Wales – the city of Chester is 40 minutes away and Llangollen on the River Dee reachable within an hour. On the doorstep, tackle the two-mile walk along the canal towpath to Ellesmere or make your way via the purpose-built circular walk and through a wooded area of rhododendrons around the mere and nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with species galore to see like otters, lapwings and water birds. The reserve also has several deep fishing pools well-stocked with catfish and big carp; more fishing – and carp – can be had nearby at Blackmere along the towpath from Colmere. Also nearby, wander into Colemere village to see the fifteenth-century thatched cottages, listed in the Domesday Book, to Ellesmere for food festivals, regattas and boat rides on the mere, or drive to Rednal Karting, Paintballing and Laser for an exciting time ten minutes away. Castles including Chirk and Whittington are a doddle to drive to too. If being on the water is your thing, a narrowboat marina is a three-minute drive away from the caravan park and both Colemere and Whitemere sailing clubs are within easy reach. By car, the standard of whitewater rafting at Bala Adventure and Watersports will have you foaming at the mouth – a milder form of the sport, along with abseiling, gorge walking, a steam railway and horse-drawn boat trips is available over the border in Wales at Llangollen.
