  • Well-kept family site in the Peak District National Park’s Hope Valley
  • Pennine Way start 15 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth House half an hour
  • Peaceful tree-shaded pitches with superb modern facilities and a shop
Set in Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park, Hope Valley Holidays opened for the first time in 2026. It has an excellent location between the villages of Hope and Bamford in the lush Hope Valley, with easy access to the Castleton caves and climbing at Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Kinder Scout all within 25 minutes’ drive. The site has pitches across several peaceful and tree-lined fields, with oh-so-smart heated shower and washroom facilities dotted strategically around the place, and a small shop selling essentials. The owners have put the natural environment at the centre of everything they do; there are wildflower borders around every field, and the mature woodland surrounding the site is awash with wildflowers in spring and summer. Numerous birds and animals visit too, and a quiet hour spent on your pitch may well reveal the wildlife that shares your space. Barbecues are welcome on the grassy pitches, but those who fancy sampling the Derbyshire gourmet scene can head to a pub about five minutes’ away on foot. Easy meals? A takeaway in Hope (25 minutes’ walk) will also deliver to your pitch. There are numerous cafés, bars and restaurants in postcard-pretty Hathersage (five minutes’ drive), and a well-known fine-dining pub around 10 minutes away by car.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Large campsite, games room for the kids. Train tracks very close by, however as they stop running at night, not really an issue.
Close to Hope and Castleton, and a local supermarket. The owners were friendly and helpful.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The location in relation to nearby attractions/hikes. Size of the field - lots of space

Disliked Railway line right next to site which ran through the night. Main block of facilities not open with no prior warning so far to walk to the smaller facilities.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The space is lovely, great for families and plenty of space to set up games. The kids loved the park and games room.

Disliked Not really their fault, but due to water pressure the showers were not great.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location is brilliant for exploring hope valley
Lots of space to play and set up
Fridges and freezers
Host's are lovely
Bring ear plug as the train line is close
Pizza/pub within a 400m walk, just note its expensive
Table tennis table available (bring you own ball)

Disliked Probably could do with another shower block as it was busy
Lacked hot water at busy periods
Games room is a little tired

From the manager: Thanks for the review and feedback Steve. We are really pleased that you all enjoyed your stay

The Games Hut is actually new, we opened it at the end of March when we opened the site. Sadly some children staying at the beginning of half term managed to vandalise and break several games in there and we are now deliberating what to do about replacing.

Extra shower block is coming soon!

Thanks

Gill and Andy

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked - owners were extremely helpful: Gave great suggestions for local things to do with kids, walked you round the site on arrival with suggestions of where to pitch, flexible with arrival time, genuinely seem to want you to have a great time at their site!

- family vs adults on seperate parts of the site, we went family - i expect the adults only site was extremely greatful for this aspect!

- playground and games barn was excellent, kids absolutely loved it.

- lots of fridge/freezer space even when busy

- owners were frequently cleaning toilet block throughout the day as it did get very busy and well used

- washing up area great and well stocked

- location fantastic for exploring that part of the peaks, loads of walks directly from the site both long and short, hope and hathersage both walking distance (10-20 mins), pizzas or cafe/beer from the bike&boot cafe next door - can also rent bikes from here, on a bus route. Parking around these villages area can be mental so its perfectly placed

Disliked - it didnt affect me but if you are a light sleeper, pitch on the opposite side to the playground as the site backs directly onto the railway line and trains do run through the night. But it didnt bother me or my family at all even though we pitched very close to the line!

Great little site if you can sleep through multiple freight trains.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovley site, owners really friendly. Great location for accessing days out (not in terms of where the pitches are due to being next to a very active train track). Lovley grounds and kids loved the play ground area and games shed.

Disliked Unfortunately we wouldn't stay here again as the camp site has a very loud freight train track right next to the pitches which made it very difficult to sleep at night and with the kids that was hard, its also not advertised there's a train track which made it more annoying had I known I would not of booked. Campers should definefly be made aware of this on the pitch up site.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The surroundings are beautiful, the amenities had little extra touches to them, such as hairdryers, and it’s located in a great spot for the nearby village and getting around the local boulder sites. There’s also a very cute little path through some trees and a dog park where you can let your dog off the lead.

We also had ducks land near the tent a few times which was lovely.

Disliked It wasn’t a big problem for us but for light sleepers then it is quite close to a road and there is a very active Trainline along the back of it. However, if are planning on being active during the day then you’re probably going to be tired enough to sleep though it

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked good family friendly space, clean toilets and showers, spacious, many spots near trees for shade, campfire available, owners are around

Disliked Take care where you camp as it is squeezed between the main road and a busy railway line with a lot of freight trains which they don't tell you. The main road is very noisy. As you enter, I would camp to the left rather than the right as the right hand field is not at all restful. The showers are a dribble. They allow a campers to have TV screens, projectors, amplified music, which surprised me as most people come to the Peak District to get away from all that. Also on one morning when we were planning to chill, there was continuous grating noise from 9am to 11am with mowers. I think they should've arranged it for the afternoon when most people would be off out. Overall I think we were just unlucky but it was not a Tall peaceful – quite stressful in fact – and I do think they should adjust their policy and rearrange the time for the grass cutting etc.

From the manager: Hi Helen

We are pleased that you liked so much about the site.

It is important for us to point out a few things here;
1. You arrived at circa 10pm and chose to pitch next to the road
2. You moved your tent the next morning to a Family Field, despite us asking you to pitch in the Adult Field
3. You stole a BBQ fire-pit from us (our personal fire-pit) which we removed from outside of your tent
4. We do allow people to watch their screens and listen to music as long as they are respectful of our rules and others around them. As discussed with you the family you refer to had music playing quietly and everything was off by 10pm
5. As discussed with you, there was no 'Amplified' music anywhere on the site, our rules around noise are very clear
6. We did have a mower out late on in the morning to enable us to get some pitches ready for people arriving that afternoon

Thanks
Gill and Andy
