  • Family-run touring park five minutes’ walk west of Fort Augustus
  • Loch Ness five minutes’ walk and the Great Glen Way 10 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches for stopovers; pubs and shops five minutes’ walk
If you’re looking for a handy overnighter in the vicinity of Loch Ness, the location of Loch Ness Caravan Park takes some beating in terms of convenience. This welcoming and family-run touring park is alongside the A82, just outside the lively waterside village of Fort Augustus. Currently operating as a stopover for motorhomes and self-contained caravans, the park offers level hardstanding pitches with optional electric hook-ups, charging facilities and disposal points. It’s set on former farmland adjacent to the owners’ working croft, so from time to time you may see Highland cows grazing in the field next to the park. It’s a family-friendly five minutes’ stroll into Fort Augustus, where you can explore the shores of Loch Ness (10 minutes’ walk) and exercise any four-legged companions along the Caledonian Canal towpath. There are pubs and cafés in the village, and a supermarket where you can pick up barbecue goodies to grill and eat back at your pitch.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked It was easy to find the site and although it is right on the side of the road the site was very quiet.
The owners were very friendly and told us we could basically choose any pitch we liked. There is a motorhome service point and drinking water on site but no toilets or showers etc. We were aware of this before we booked so it wasn’t a problem. Because of this the site fee was very cheap
There are loads of places to eat and drink in Fort Augustus to choose every taste and budget

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Everything! Quiet location. Very convenient. Amazing dog walk circuit and children play fort.
Only niggle is that the pitch wasn’t 100% flat but totally fine even without wedges.
As long as you’re prepared for no toilet/shower, it has everything else. And very good value. Recommend

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Greeted on arrival and directed to our pitch by a very friendly gentleman. Very neat and tidy site and very well priced. Allowed us to set up before popping over to collect the balance of payment on a contactless machine. Nice clean service area. Very well spaced out pitches with plenty of space with some picnic benches available for use.

Disliked Not a dislike really just an observation. The site is perfectly placed for a quick stopover. We booked very late and thankfully got a spot last minute. Did mean our pitch was fairly close to the main road. Which was quiet in the evening but traffic noise started quite early in the morning. Again, just an observation not a complaint or dislike in any way at all.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Great site with good sized pitches and lovely and clean manicured lawns. Hosts really helpful and loads of walks from the site to waterfalls, Loch Ness and Fort Augusta and the Caledonian Canal. Plenty to do here.

Disliked Bit of road noise but not too bad.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked I located this site on Search for Sites as located close to Fort Augustus and only 10-15 min walk which is excellent. A well laid out smaller site with hard standing and fresh water / disposal facilities etc. All first class. Peaceful and ample areas for a dog walk if required. The owner and his wife were very friendly and an easy booking process, or just turn up for access to a vacant pitch, but worth phoning the site first.

Local attractions

The famed Great Glen Way (10 minutes’ walk) runs through Fort Augustus, and from there you can follow sections of it along the Caledonian Canal, or get high into the surrounding glens for hikes through pine forest up to waterfalls like Allt na Criche (45 minutes). As well as giving access to Great Glen Way rambles, Fort Augustus (five minutes) is home to the flight of five locks built by engineer Thomas Telford in the 1820s to unite the Caledonian Canal with Loch Ness. It’s also a departure point for boat cruises along the loch, during which you can look for Nessie. You can carry on your search for the elusive monster at The Loch Ness Centre (35 minutes’ drive), and then get down to some serious history at Urquhart Castle (half an hour), scene of centuries of battle and today a peaceful ruin overlooking Loch Ness. Heading north you'll hit Inverness (an hour) for tours of the castle and the tropical glasshouse at Inverness Botanic Gardens.
