Local attractions
The Ponca City region is well known for its fishing and watersports, at the nearby waterways of the Arkansas river, Lake Ponca and 38-mile Kaw Lake with 170+ miles of shoreline for jetskiing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and swimming off three beaches.
The region is named after the Ponca tribe, whose chief argued successfully in US Supreme Court in 1879 that Native Americans had the same legal rights as United States citizens. His statue is at the intersection of Highway 60 and Standing Bear Parkway, and a park and museum are named after him in town.
Ponca City is home to several landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places including the Poncan Theatre, the E. W. Marland Mansion, Marland's Grand Home and the Pioneer Woman Statue and Museum, honouring the women who settled Oklahoma.
More local history is at the Conoco Museum, covering the history of the energy company, and the Cann Memorial Botanical Gardens, named after former Ponca City civil leader A Cann.
A few minutes from downtown Ponca is the Lake Ponca Recreation Area, with beach, playground, golfing, hiking, fishing and boating. For family days, the Sun-N-Fun Lagoon waterpark has waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river, bumper boats, go karts and batting cages.
