Beautiful shoreline camping on the banks of the Albemarle Sound

(Note: Fireworks, crackers, sparklers, garbage burning are not permitted) Tip: Book during a full moon. And/or, clear skies- star gazers will have much to see. The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has been set up in December 2023 as conservation easement protected land. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks. Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations. Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us. The Spruill Conservation Farm had 65 acres of active commercial farming, so farmers and farming equipment may be seen and heard from time to time. Also, several local families with long histories connected to the Farm enjoy the waterfront for fishing. Campers may see them sometimes in the common areas, and the access road to Common Area West Side (past Site 3) should stay open so they can pass. *Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. This makes the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing. Google maps sometimes mistakenly adds an s - 'Spruills Loop Road' If #767 does not appear in your search, try 'Spruill Conservation Farm' in Roper. Warning: There is another Spruill Loop Road in Creswell, a 'Spruill Road' in nearby Pea Ridge, and a 'Loop Road' nearby, also. If you are not sure, the entrance to Spruill Loop Road is opposite a private residence, address 12554 Route 32, Roper. GPS coordinates for the farm gate on Spruill Loop Road are N 35 degrees 55.937 minutes W 76 degrees 34.596 minutes The yellow gate will be seen on your right as the road turns left. The gate should remain closed and locked at all times.
