The bags are packed, the sandals are slipped on and you’re off to the Algarve coast. Before you set off for any silky beaches or seaside terraces, set up your base at Oasis Camp in Lagoa, which is rather dreamy indeed… The site has a natural swimming pond made of clear spring water and right on site, there’s a surf camp providing equipment rental and multi-day lessons. If surfing isn’t quite your thing, there are also fitness activities and yoga classes to get stuck into. Having Lagoa as your location is excellent too. With rows of whitewashed house, many from the 18th century, there’s plenty to do, whether it’s surfing, dining on typical Portuguese cuisine, visiting Castelo de São João do Arade or driving under 20 minutes to sandy beaches like Praia dos Caneiros and Marinha beach. Oasis Camp has 50,000 square metres of greenery, and as if that isn’t enough to help you relax already, there’s also the natural swimming pond, a pool table and a table tennis table. The site runs communal barbecue evenings, as well as excursions across the Algarve. There’s a chilled-out atmosphere, that’s for certain.

Liked Sehr individueller Campingplatz, sehr schöner Badeteich. Es gibt hier alles, was man braucht. Guter Standort, um schnell umliegende Sehenswürdigkeiten anzufahren. Freundliches Personal :-)

Disliked El camping esta a medio construir. Zonas con bastante peligro para todos. Baños insuficientes para tanta gente. Su espacio era bastante limitado, por lo cual te rozas con las paredes y wc. Antiguo y en condiciones poco aceptables. Solo una zona de baños para todos, y muy lejos de mi parcela. Parcela en pendiente, de gravilla con fondo de tierra roja, hiper sucia esa tierra, las manchas de la ropa no se quitan. Los contenedores brillan por su ausencia, 4 cubos a la entrada y ya está. La piscina estaba llenándose, le faltaba como metro y medio de agua para llegar a las escaleras de madera junto al bar. Continuos y constantes cortes de luz, a tal punto de que pensábamos que se había roto el pingüino (aire acondicionado portátil) que llevamos en la camper. Ahora entiendo porque hay pocas fotos del sitio. Se parece más a un infierno que a un oasis. No tiene sombras, rodeado de maleza que hace daño. Estar aquí ha supuesto un estrés constante. Nos hemos ido un día antes, perdiendo dinero.

Liked Extremely disappointed with my experience. I had reserved a specific pitch for my campervan, but upon arrival, I was directed to a spot that was not a pitch at all. My assigned 'spot' was a section of the main pathway leading to the toilet block. I was placed just a few feet away from the entrance to the toilets, and right next to the garbage and grey water disposal areas. This meant that my campervan was constantly in the way, and people had to navigate around me to use the facilities. This was not the camping experience I booked and paid for.

Disliked Places trop petites, sanitaires limités, services non adaptés (pas de lavabos, pas de patères, ni de quoi poser ces effets), poubelles en pleine vue entassées dans une remorque, une mare stagnante qui amène des moustiques.

Liked Tout. N’avons pas testé le bar et le restaurant. Quand nous sommes arrivés, on s’est demandé où on arrivait car c’est poussiéreux et reculé de la ville. Mais en réalité, c’est top, pour les petits et les grands. L’accueil est chaleureux, la piscine naturelle est une pépite, il y a un coin « ferme » avec âne, chevaux, brebis. Les sanitaires sont propres (sans papier par contre). En résumé nous avons adoré ce lieu paisible. Parfait pour se détendre.

Local attractions

If surfing isn’t quite your cup of tea, it’s still possible to get the kids into the water without so much stepping foot on the beach. Slide & Splash (10 minutes’ drive) is a popular water park in Lagoa with slides rather than surfboards. Many of the Algarve’s most popular spots are, of course, within driving distance too. Will you start with Lagos (half an hour), where there’s a steep descent to Praia do Camilo, dramatic cliffs with a lighthouse, a castle and all the stunning terraces within the walled old town? Or instead, begin with Albufeira (25 minutes), which is just a tad quicker to get to? At this spot, join a diving trip (or a dolphin-watching trip if you don’t fancy going down under). Faro (45 minutes) is another stunning location, with plenty of stunning coastal scenery for cyclists to breathe in, as well as a cobbled old town, 13th-century cathedral and a museum in a convent.
