What customers say

Great location near lake & town, with clean, modern showers & friendly staff. Some find the site a bit run-down with uneven pitches, poor Wi-Fi & electrics, few kid-friendly facilities, older washroom cleanliness issues & noise.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked The campsite facilities are good, clean but aging. Good location close to the reservoir and local town for supplies.

Disliked We were advised an earliest check-in time of 15:00. We arrived at 14:55. Unfortunately the reception was closed with no personnel on site. Consequently, we were stuck with a 14 metre car and caravan combo on the wrong site of the barrier with no instructions on how to enter the site.

There were several other families stuck in the same position. This turned out to be quite fortunate, as, one of these groups was a delightful young Belgian couple who spoke very good German and English. After around 45 minutes of trying different unanswered telephone numbers, they eventually got a call back from absent staff advising how we could gain entry by opening a combination locked panel to get hold of welcome packs containing site barrier pass cards. We did get an email, the next day!, which gave us this information. Someone or something messed up quite badly.

When they are present, we found the reception staff to be generally quite surly with one lady in particular being openly impatient and rude. Best to keep contact with them to a minimum as they radiate a believe that they are too busy to offer either friendly or polite customer service.

We did respond to Europarcs’ request for a site review, and related the events re-told here. A month has gone by and we have not had any response to that review from Europarcs.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Good place to stay without having to use driving. Perfect for cycling.

Disliked The only thing I do not like is on the last night and the morning before we leave new people arrive and camping. They smoke so much just like steam train!! Hv to shut the windows and can’t enjoy to sit out. Knowing it is not your fault!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Location near the lake.

Disliked Small crowded pitches, a feeling that it is not cared for now. Many facilities seem to be in disrepair or simply closed. It is not part of the lake as it appears on the website. Poor level of cleaning in general was a problem.

Liked Shower facilities

Disliked pitches too close together, especially the time we stopped there as it was a public holiday so was busy. No privacy between pitches and felt unsafe.

Local attractions

If you’re already had a dip in the fresh waters of Biggesee reservoir, it’s probably time to see it from another perspective. Try out the amazing lake views from the soaring Aussichtsplattform Biggeblick observation deck (15 minutes’ walk), or take a cruise on the MS Bigge from Sondern (15 minutes’ drive), taking in the impressive Sonderner Viaduct and the feat of engineering that is Attendorn Dam. If you fancy time-travelling back to the Middle Ages, take a trip to Attendorn (10 minutes) to explore its cobbled streets and medieval buildings, enjoy a beer in pavement cafés and take the kids to the Südsauerlandmuseum, with its eccentric displays of stuffed sabre-toothed tigers and Lego models. Drolshagen (25 minutes) is another pretty town, with lots of half-timbered chalet-style buildings and cute cafés in which to take a break. Should you hit a rainy day, head to Olpe (20 minutes) for a cinema and a waterpark with an indoor pool – or escape the weather by heading deep underground at Atta Cave (five minutes’ drive) to see its amazing limestone formations in one of Germany’s largest subterranean caverns.
