Plotting a Poland adventure? Fancy exploring two countries on one holiday? Here’s your chance… just book your stay at Wohnmobil Stellplatz Polderblick, built on reclaimed polder land between Germany and Poland, and you can hop backwards and forwards across the border whenever you like.
At 10 minutes’ drive from Schwedt in the Uckermark, this well-maintained site has grass pitches right on the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Canal, with easy access to coarse fishing, wild swimming, canoeing and paddleboarding. You can also hire boats to zoom up and down the waterways and out onto the Oder River, which forms a natural border with neighbouring Poland.
If that all seems too energetic for you, there’s a pool and sundeck on site for leisurely afternoons, as well as a play area for any kids who need to run off energy. Keen birders can also get out into the surrounding countryside to spot migratory wading birds – the polder area is one of the biggest bird havens in Europe.
Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and there are picnic tables dotted about with pretty views of the canal; you can also eat at restaurants and pizzerias in Schwedt’s historic town centre.

Local attractions
Sporting activities on the tree-lined Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Canal can be accessed right from the pitches; it’s a quiet spot for wild swimming, paddleboarding and fishing. You can also hire motor boats (35 minutes’ drive) on the Oder River to explore the Uckermark’s waterways and reclaimed polders.
Cycle and hiking paths run straight from the campsite along the canal into the marshy meadowlands of Unteres Odertal National Park (15 minutes) – great for family jaunts as the terrain is nice and flat. Another wonderful spot for younger kids is Tierpark Angermünde (half an hour) petting zoo, where they can feed goats, deer and donkeys.
Over in Poland, Bukowa Forest Landscape Park (45 minutes) is a peaceful haven for walks in beech woodland, and the landmark Widuchowa Observation Point (35 minutes) has stunning views over watery landscaped on both sides of the border. If you’re due an injection of culture into your Polish foray, tour the museums, World War II tunnels and underground Cold War bunkers in Szczecin (50 minutes), and make a night of it with an opera or symphony performance.
