Fancy putting together a picnic full of local treats for your next foray into the forest? Set forth on a foodie day, plucking fruit from Brisseverre Farm (10 minutes’ drive), picking up traditional sweets from Confiserie Delisvosges (15 minutes) and taking a tour of Chevrerie des Granges (25 minutes) to meet the goats and try out their cheeses. For a tipple to come home to, pick up a bottle of something at Distillerie Riondé (25 minutes). For more scenic strolls, take off to Chatillon-sur-Saône (half an hour) to meander among around the medieval fortifications or hit the hilly trails of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park (40 minutes). Keen to kick off those shoes? France’s first barefoot park is half an hour away at La Ferme Aventure. This is an area famed for its glass makers, and you can get out to see the crafty folk in action at La Rochère glass factory (15 minutes) before perusing some of the pretty exhibits at La Musée d’Hennezel-Clairey (10 minutes). Time for a rest? Venture to Vittel or Contrexéville (both around half an hour) to soak in the thermal waters and snap up spa treatments.
