- Small and quiet family-friendly Burgundy site at Lucenay-l’Évêquein
- Autun 20 minutes’ drive; half an hour to Lac des Settons
- Swimming and tennis on site, plus river access for trout fishing
To many people, Burgundy is all about the vineyards – but there's much more to this gorgeous area than just its wine production. Camping du Ternin is a good place to explore some of that – this small-scale family-friendly site is on the edge of Morvan Regional Natural Park and surrounded by peaceful countryside and forested hills to explore.
You’re never too far from a vineyard in this area, so you can of course include them on your itinerary without too much effort (there are several within a half-hour drive). But the immediate vicinity here is all about the natural landscapes and outdoor activities: there are plenty of walking and bike trails in the local area, and you can fish for brown trout in the Ternin river directly from the site.
If fishing isn’t your thing, you can spend your time on site taking a dip in the swimming pool, batting a few balls around on the tennis court or gathering some pals for a game at the football field.
Alternatively, of course, you could just enjoy a bit of chill-out time. There are only a handful of pitches here, so the vibe is very much low-key and laidback, and there's plenty of shade and privacy from the hedges that surround each pitch. Simple facilities include toilets, hot showers and a washing-up area, and you'll be allowed to bring a barbecue.
Not up for outdoor cooking? Take the five-minute stroll into the village of Lucenay-l’Évêque, which has several bistros for tasty meals (and a glass of local wine, of course…)

Local attractions
Stay here and you’ll be just on the edge of the Morvan Regional Natural Park, with access to all the walking and cycling trails this lovely part of the world has to offer. As well as those activities, you can also ride the Vélorail du Morvan (10 minutes' drive), go horse riding (15 minutes) or head to Lac des Settons (half an hour) for watersports and cool swims from the beach area.
There are plenty of historical bits and bobs to seek out around here too: perhaps start at the Roman relic Temple of Janus (15 minutes) before moving on to Bibracte (half an hour), where archaeologists are gradually unearthing one of the most important hillforts in ancient Gaul. Autun (20 minutes) is another great place to visit, with a Roman amphitheatre and city walls to see, plus a striking medieval cathedral.
Glass of wine? Go on then… there are several vineyards within a half-hour drive, and the winemaking hub of Beaune is about 50 minutes away. For another taste of the Burgundy area, pay a visit to Dijon (an hour), famed for its mustard.
