Two top Normandy destinations are a breeze to get to from family-friendly Camping L'Hypo'Camp: the World War II memorial of Omaha beach (five kilometres) and the spectacular sight of the Bayeux Tapestry, within 10. Omaha beach, the one five kilometres away, has a watersports centre with sailing activities. When you return back to base, there are more ways to unwind, as the quiet site has a children's play area with a seesaw and swings. Barbecues are allowed on site too for alfresco dinners, and there's the convenience of having a small grocery shop on site if you need to gather ingredients. There are also other amenities including two well-maintained shower and toilet blocks. L'Hypo'Camp is outside the coastal commune of Colleville-sur-Mer, just under 40 kilometres from Calvados department capital Caen.

Washing area, even has a clothes horse for drying clothes if needed

Beach near the campsite, we should have asked for directions as we couldn’t get there before dark!

Liked: Great campsite, lots of greenery, beautiful birdsong every evening, staff were amazing, very friendly, English spoken, there is a small bar and shop, great place to meet fellow travellers, go between 5 and 7pm, sit in sunshine, with local beer and cidre

Disliked: Nothing dislike here, I would definitely return, probably be a good idea to have a bike, I walk a lot, so Omaha beach and US cemetery 3 miles away was a lovely countryside walk

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Friendly helpful staff. Great location for visiting D-Day sites. Quiet and peaceful site. Clean washing facilities. Pitch was well laid out and level.

Disliked: On site shop a little limited. Tree over pitch meant lots of bird poo to clean off tent.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Excellent size pitches. Lovely quiet location with access onto walking and cycle routes. Spotlessly clean facilities with added bonus of a soap dispenser for when you forgot to take your own when you went to the toilet! Free WiFi throughout the site and free electricity for tent pitches which was a big bonus!
Fresh bread to order for the morning.

Disliked: Not a problem but there are no toilet seats so you have to hover!

Liked: Lovely smaller site, with friendly and helpful staff who made us very welcome and all speak French and English.

Great base to explore all the D-Day locations. Showers are good and the facilities are always clean. Didn't know they have site-wide wi-fi until we arrived, nice bonus

We have a large tent and they had ensured a larger pitch had been reserved, all the pitches are nice with mature hedges and trees. Mix of tents, motorhomes and some static caravans.

Overall we had a really happy stay at a good price

Liked: Friendly welcome and ongoing support from staff running the site. A very clean site with plenty of facilities.

Disliked: Pitches are a strange shape and very uneven. Showers very unpredictable. WiFi impossible to connect to.

Local attractions

Normandy tourist destinations of Omaha beach and the Bayeux Tapestry see hundreds of thousands of visitors to this region every year. The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is at the site's local town of Colleville-sur-Mer, overlooking the beach; at Bayeux, take time to see the town as well as its famous tapestry, stopping off at the 11th-century cathedral, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy, and, if you're here for World War II remembrance, the British war cemetery just outside town. The fishing, horse riding and canoeing within the same distance should provide plenty of entertainment by the coast, as should the local sands within a kilometre, and the fishing boat views from the harbour of Port-en-Bessin, three kilometres from the site. The World War II memorial and museum of La Pointe du Hoc within 20 minutes' drive of the site. Also, remember to take your chance to have a tour of the Isigny Sainte Mère Coopérative (20 minutes' drive) cheese and butter factory.

Booking terms and conditions

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

Hired accommodation

Hired accommodation: €300.00 ($472.21) damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit should no damage/losses be found.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Reception

Reception is closed from noon to 1:30 p.m.. No arrivals are permitted between these times.
Reception is open from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. between 28/03 and 10/10.
