  • Family-friendly countryside camping retreat in the quiet Cothi Valley
  • Llandeilo 15 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to the Brecon Beacons
  • On-site kids' play area; spacious pitches close to the river Cothi
Come and take stock of spectacular scenery at Tireithin Meadow Camping Retreat, a family-friendly site in the quiet surroundings of Carmarthenshire's Cothi Valley. Sitting on 12 acres of well-maintained land, this site is a few hundred yards from a peaceful river, within reach of the off-road hiking and BMX trails in Brechfa Forest (20 minutes' drive) and just under three quarters of an hour from South Wales's cracking coastline. There's all sorts of outdoor activities to try out in the surrounding area, so make sure to bring a bike, walking boots and an open mind. This part of the Carmarthenshire countryside has, for example, plenty of footpaths for scenic strolls, castle-crowned hills to conquer and a bike trail that passes right in front of the site gates. Fancy a more chilled time? That can be accommodated too – just walk a few hundred yards down to the banks of the river Cothi for some paddling and nature spotting, take the kids to the on-site play area or sit back while enjoying a well-earned break and a sky full of stars. This secluded site is about two and half miles from the village of Llanfynydd and its pub, while the nearest place to pick up supplies is Dryslywn's community shop.

Birch primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: What an absolutely incredible campsite! We really loved every single second of our stay, even though the weather was against us! It is the most peaceful, secluded campsite that we have ever been too. We loved having our own little area surrounded by a beautiful meadow with long grass. We were equally amazed by the toilet, shower and washing up area, which has been made very homely. Also, we would like to comment on the fantastic customer service given by David and Fiona - they make sure they do absolutely everything they can to ensure you have a thoroughly enjoyable stay! We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this idyllic campsite to anyone ! Thank you 😊

Birch primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely and peaceful site. The owners were very helpful and pleasant to chat with. When we arrived back from a walk soaking wet they did their best to increase the shower temperature (which is capped to stop children being burnt) attempted to rescue my water damaged phone and offered to dry our clothes. The park kept my child entertained whilst dinner was being made and the owners had provided football with nets and a badminton set up as well as a fire pit. The showers and toilets were clean and tidy. Drinking water provided along with space in a fridge, freezer and a wash up area. Pitch is of decent size and pretty flat. No signal which i like on holiday! It's can be a bit of a drive to places but the lovely scenery makes up for it.

Disliked: Not much. Would have liked the showers a degree or 2 warmer but a) I understand why it's capped b)not a deal breaker.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind words, we are glad you enjoyed your stay, just a shame the weather wasn't kinder for your trip to Pen y Fan. We have the showers set to 38 degrees which we normally find is about right for both adults and children, we are happy to turn them up on request if needed. It could be that the colder temperature affects the gas boilers. Please be assured we have taken note of your comment. I do hope that you'll come back to visit us in the near future.

Local attractions

Get out to wild landscapes like Brechfa Forest (20 minutes' drive) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 20 minutes) for days full of exercise, spectacular scenery and fresh air. The western part of the park is easily accessible and is home to sights like craggy Carreg Cennen Castle (30 minutes), Llyn y Fan Fach lake (50 minutes) and mighty mountains like Pen y Fan (an hour and 20 minutes). Once you've been out in the wilds, you might like to turn to lower-intensity landscapes like the National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes) – best followed-up with trips out to pretty parks like the National Trust-run Dinefwr Estate (20 minutes) or the restored medieval grounds of Aberglasney Gardens (20 minutes). When it comes to the coast, you could very well stick to Carmarthenshire, exploring Tâf Estuary spots like Laugharne Castle (45 minutes) or settling down on Llansteffan beach (40 minutes). Pembrokeshire seaside resorts like Saundersfoot and Tenby (both roughly an hour) are other tempting possibilities – especially if you've got kids in tow who'd appreciate trips to nearby family-friendly attractions like Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (an hour).
