Ty Cerrig Caravan and Camping: Denbighshire holidays

General

  • Well-maintained site just off the A5 in rural Denbighshire
  • A 10-minute drive from Corwen or the edge of Snowdonia National Park
  • Half a mile from a café with hillside views; free on-site fishing

On the edge of Snowdonia National Park, Ty Cerrig Caravan and Camping is a homely North Wales site with stunning views over the Denbighshire countryside.

This is a simple spot with a well-maintained toilet and shower block and generously-sized natural grass pitches. The outlook here is simply spectacular, with gorgeous views overlooking Foel Goch and the Berwyn Mountains. Ty Cerrig Caravan and Camping is located in a quiet location just off the speedy A5 road, meaning you're a mere 10 minutes' drive from the edge of Snowdonia National Park and all the amenities of Corwen town centre.

For food, you're two miles down the road from a shop selling local produce and half a mile from a café that serves top-rated hot and cold food. Traditional camp dinners are also in the offing, as Ty Cerrig Caravan and Camping allows guests to set up barbecues in its grounds.

Feel free to bring your fishing equipment to this rural spot for some free on-site angling. Lots of other outdoor leisure activities are available in the local area too, including go-karting at Glan Y Gors (five minutes) and watersports on the river Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre (15 minutes). The site also has direct access to the attractive Hiraethog Trail.

Overall, I am satisfied with this experience. Not value for money.10/29/2021

The owner lady in the farm was very lovely and helpful. She welcomed very well and explained everything about the site. She answered all the question in a good manner and been able to fulfill all the initial queries. She has provided extra blanket when been asked.

    Disliked:

Not good value for money. I have paid £95 per night. I rather explain this is basic type Glamping. I was bit surprised there was no heating system and electric facility. Toilets and shower are 100 meters far away from tents, whereas there was raining day and night due to this autumn period. It was not cleaned properly, I saw some spider waves are hanging out in the tents. I could not contact tent owner for in case of emergency and if you have any issues. I have called so many times in provided phone number but there was no response and also no response in text messages.

There was not all weather proof cooking area. This is only designed for summer. I have struggled for cooking in rain and wind. We must cook outside as per site policy but there is no proper cooking area to protect from rain and wind for the autumn and winter seasons.

So that, I strongly don’t recommend for autumn and winter seasons. I had measurable experience.

From the manager...

This is a very mixed review which is a bit of concern!
We explained everything and you where very happy. On arrival at bell tent you asked about electric and heating which shows that before booking you did NOT read the information provided. I can clearly say that any kind of camping would not suite you! You did not call/text at anytime. On second evening you I saw you and you were happy that’s what you said. You were given extra throws even though you said you were warm enough. Camping is an outside adventure definitely not for you. I strongly advise for you to book a hotel and not be so rude in review.
Also if you did not enjoy your stay why stay until 2pm when check out is clearly 11am?
Bell tent was in immaculate clean (spider free) prior to your arrival. It’s such a shame that you did not respect it and leave it in a cleaner condition. Again you did not read that it is to be left as found. And finally thank you for taking 10 rolls toilet paper and solar light outside facilities

It was a really good view, really good drive there, the lady who owns it was really lovely and helpful. The whole set up of the hut was brilliant, loads of lights outside so when it was night it was all lit up. Good to sit outside it as there was a fire pit and wood available. Toilets on site were really clean and we will 100% be going again.

    Disliked:

The only thing I’d say is the pub is a bit challenging to walk to so we got a taxi but that wouldn’t be a deciding factor in going again or not as the pubs food was actually good and it wasn’t expensive.

Children shouting and shining torches around the site.
As there was only one shower in the men's facilities, I would recommend a second one is opened for when the site is busier.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. If you would of made us aware of children shouting we would of asked parents to speak to them. We do have 2 showers in men’s toilet, someone must of been using it possibly as they are Free people do use them a lot as I understand campsite normally charge for showers!

Staff lovely, very helpful and checked in and were always about. Nice chilled campsite, had own space not on top of each other

    Disliked:

Toilet facilities could do will a re vamp, although clean and toilet rolls stocked, the shower trickled and no lights, only 2 showers for the women for a campsite I feel needs reviewed. There was so many rules posted up in the toilets I still don’t think I read them all… (I did fine all the rules entertaining,I seen it as when someone did something wrong a poster with the rule went up, ie no music after 10:00pm then another poster, no loud music at all)

From the manager...

Thank you for your comment. Not quite sure about toilet needs revamp?? You are camping and I am very happy with facilities we offer at our campsite! Very clean, well stocked, HOT water plenty of it, our showers have exceptionally good pressure possible but complicated for you! The reason for signs is to make sure people obey and most of all respect our campsite, ie. music, keep pitch clean and tidy! we do have guests who don’t want to take time and read the main information sign, therefore music playing after 10 pm which is NOT allowed, it does say on the sign music to be quiet. If people won’t read therefore it is up to us to put a sign up!! As we need to make sure that ALl of our guests enjoy their stay with us. People don’t want to hear loud music on holiday, if you would of read the site information prior to booking you would of been aware of everything. Regarding showers 2 are plenty as our showers are hot and FREE.

Local attractions

Here for a calm country break? Look out over heather-covered moorlands, peaceful woodlands and quiet lakes on the Hiraethog Trail, a scenic traffic-free walking route a few minutes' walk from site. Alternatively, take your angling gear down the road to try the waters at the Dragonfly Tea Rooms and Fishery, or head to Llyn Brenig (15 minutes), widely held to be one of the best trout fisheries in this part of the country.

It's not all peace and quiet in this part of North Wales, though – you could also live life in the fast lane and go for a spin at Glan Y Gors go-karting (five minutes' drive) or hop from tree to tree at Zip World Fforest (20 minutes). Down the road, the National White Water Centre (15 minutes) has opportunities for high-adrenaline rafting on the river Tryweryn to try out too.

For more days out, visit the lakeside town of Bala (20 minutes) and take a steam railway ride, head to Conwy's impressive castle (45 minutes) and go for walks by the beach, or head into the national park and explore Betws-y-Coed (20 minutes), a local shopping hub with bike hire, outdoor outlets and lots of good food options.
