  • Well-located simple site just outside Capelulo in Eryri National Park
  • Penmaenmawr beach five minutes' drive; 10 minutes to Conwy Castle
  • Easy access from A55; dogs welcome; pub three minutes' walk
This is a nifty location for a North Wales outdoor break – Y Glyn Fields is right at the top end of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and only a couple of miles from the coast, putting you within easy reach of both countryside outings and seaside days. There’s easy access from the A55 North Wales Expressway and the coastal cycle path… and, perhaps most importantly, the local pub is only three minutes’ walk away… This laidback little site is just outside the village of Capelulo (which has a village shop and bus stop as well as the aforementioned pub) and five minutes’ drive from Penmaenmawr, a slightly larger town that has a convenience store, a pub, a café and a cluster of takeaways. A gym is opposite the site, and just a 10-minute walk away is a golf club that also serves food and drink. It’s a fairly simple setup here, with families, groups and dogs all welcome. Facilities stretch to just portable toilets, and you can add a gazebo or pup tent to your booking for a bit of extra living space if you like. It should be pretty easy to fill your days around here – there are heaps of outdoor activities around the national park and along the coast, and it’s easy to get to heritage sites like Conwy Castle or Llandudno’s Victorian pier. For a change of scenery, it’s also only about a 20-minute drive to the Menai Bridge for a day over on Anglesey.

What customers say

A no-frills campsite, loved for amazing views & quiet vibes. Clean portaloos, helpful owners. Great value for a simple getaway. Some noted sloped fields; bring levelling chocks. No running water expected, but most were ready.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Good size area to choose a pitch, flat enough to pitch a tent easily and there are walls/fences with trees to block off some of the wind. Location is good, close to useful roads but tucked away and relatively secluded. As long as you know there is no shower or running water before you book (and you should, because they do inform you) you'll be fine. The portaloos were well maintained. If you're driving with the site on your left, the ramp entrance is just opposite the Castle Fitness entrance. Very happy with our night here, especially for the price. If I were to ever be in the area, I would definitely stay again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Nice quiet site. Spacious and plenty of room between tents. The view over Conway bay is spectacular. The situation is very convenient for Conwy and there are not many campsites in the area that take tents so that was a big bonus. There was very little noise in the night apart from sheep making odd coughing noises. I presumed this was because it was so dry and they couldn’t swallow easily. It was altogether nice to be near to animals and nature.

Disliked I was told that there were no showers before I booked …I was fine with that and brought a solar shower..but after I had booked and paid I was told by text message that there was no water on site at all. We were told to bring our own water. This could have been on the initial booking form so we could make an informed choice. That was the only downside.

Liked A great base for North Wales
We’ve found the ideal back-to-basics campsite in Wales! Y Glyn Fields is a no-frills site, but it’s a perfect base for exploring North Wales.
The site was clean and tidy, and the portaloos were very clean and well maintained. It’s simple, peaceful and has everything you need for a great camping trip.
We’d definitely stay here again! 🏕️⛰️
