Aside from being a stunning heather and moor nature reserve with ample birdlife, Beacon Hill (15 minutes’ drive) also has access to the 135-mile Glyndwr’s Way footpath through forests and over moors. Surrounded by the Teme Valley, Knighton (15 minutes) has access to the Offa’s Dyke Path. A good few activities, perhaps? Make your way to golf courses (from 15 minutes), a rally school (20 minutes), clay pigeon shooting (25 minutes) or horse riding schools (from half an hour). Towns with character? Try Clun, a rural town in the south Shropshire hills (20 minutes), or Ludlow (45 minutes), known for its food and drink. What else might take your fancy? The observatory at The Spaceguard Centre (25 minutes), more hikes in the Elan Valley (45 minutes) or the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre (35 minutes)? For activities involving animals, there’s the Red Kite Feeding Station (40 minutes) and Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre (40 minutes).
