  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • A 35-minute walk from New Quay; footpath to the Wales Coast Path
  • Shops and pubs in New Quay; playground and dog exercise area on site
Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only. Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please. The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires. The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site. Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

What customers say

Great sea views, clean facilities & friendly owners are highlights. Spacious pitches. Good for exploring coast & New Quay (steep walk). Pay showers, can be windy, limited on-site amenities.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked First time camping so nothing to compare it to. This site is all we needed for 2 nights. No problems at all everyone was friendly. 10 minutes in the shower for £1 is long enough. Showers and toilets very clean. The little park was great for my grand daughter. The pitches are clearly marked around the edges of the field, leaving plenty of room in the middle .

When we arrived my car had overheated after a 5 hour journey. Nigel the site owner said leave it there I will look at it for you. He brought his car and told us to put our things in it and he would give us a lift to our pitch. Wow brilliant. He filled my car up and drove it to us with knowledge of what the problem was. Being in the AA I then left it to them. Nigel gave us a lift into new quay that night, advising us the best taxi and chippy to use.. I saw him as we were leaving with the AA someone had locked their van keys in the van. Nigel was going to help and the AA man said you'll never get in that van. 5 mins later Nigel was in it.

All in all a lovely friendly site and excellent owners.

Liked In a peaceful rural location, the site has views looking out over Cardigan Bay and the coastal path is within easy walking distance. A great place to get away from it all, relax and enjoy walks in a beautiful coastal area. After booking a 3 day break, I was notified of a cancellation and was able to arrive a day early which suited me ideally.
Toilet and shower block facilities are excellent, and while dogs have to be kept on a lead, there is an exercise field available for them to run around in.
The owner of the campsite was exceptionally helpful when I inadvertently locked myself out of my campervan and was expecting to wait 3 hours for breakdown recovery to arrive. He kindly offered to try to get into my vehicle and ten minutes later succeeded and I was able to cancel the call out and get on my way.

Liked The view over Cardigan Bay and on a clear day to the Llŷn Paeninsular is beautiful. The site is quiet and friendly with clean facilities and helpful, friendly owners. Plenty of running around space for children and a small play ground area (though all the children were having too much fun playing on the field to use that from what I saw!!).
Saw dolphins, seals and porpoise by just walking along the near-by coast path into New Quay. Just a beautiful place to be.

Disliked Cycling back up the hill to the campsite from New Quay!
Very minor niggle and true of most places, need leveling ramps for motorhome/campervan.

Local attractions

Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea. Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots. Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops. Elsewhere along the coast, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).
