Sunset over new quay

  • Dog-friendly site with sea views 10 minutes’ drive from New Quay
  • Poppit Sands Beach 40 minutes’ drive; Aberystwyth 45 minutes
  • Access to Cei Bach Beach; two playgrounds; spectacular sunsets
Spectacular sunsets over St George’s Channel, epic walks along the Wales Coast Path and relaxing days at Cei Bach Beach – perhaps with your faithful canine companion in tow: all this (and more) awaits at Cei Bach Country Club. This family-friendly coastal site sits just to the east of New Quay (10 minutes’ drive), in western Wales. Hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up come with heart-opening sea views across Bae Ceredigion (Cardigan Bay) to the Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; turn your gaze to the north on a clear day, and you might see the distant silhouette of the mountains of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). While you take in this bountiful spectacle, the kids might have already discovered the two play areas (with adventure courses) or started on the path leading down to Cei Bach Beach. Part sand and part pebbles, Cei Bach is a good spot for swimming, kayaking and wildlife spotting, with dolphins and seals often seen in the water (and red kites in the sky). Between April and November, you can go on a wildlife boat trip from New Quay, which has three beaches of its own, including Harbour Beach, where it is possible to cast a line. For something more expansive, head to Poppit Sands Beach (40 minutes), on the Teifi Estuary; it’s a huge stretch of… well, sand and a great place to fly a kite. Cei Bach Country Club is a well-equipped site with a toilet/shower block, plus a washing-up area, a launderette and a drying room. There’s also a communal freezer for your ice packs.

Local attractions

Designed by John Nash in the late 18th century, National Trust - Llanerchaeron (15 minutes’ drive) is a villa with elegant interiors featuring Georgian furniture, delicate plasterwork friezes and family portraits. The surrounding estate includes a walled garden, a farmyard with a range of Welsh breeds and a collection of agricultural machinery. The best views of Aberystwyth (45 minutes) and the hills that surround it can be had from the end of the harbour arm, where a wooden jetty is often busy with fishermen. Take a ride on the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill, where you can visit the Camera Obscura and take in splendid coastal views. It’s activities galore at Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (55 minutes), with themed walking paths, mountain-bike routes (and a mountain-bike skills park) and horse-riding trails. The centre is renowned for its daily red kite feeding sessions, which attract as many as 150 ravenous birds.
