  • Well-kept flat pitches with lovely views over the Dyfi estuary
  • Aberystwyth and Dyfi Bike Park both 20 minutes' drive away
  • Launch kayaks or paddleboards on the river from the site
If lovely scenery and lots of nature all around are on your shopping list for your West Wales camping break, then the setting of Ynyslas Camping should suit you rather well. This chilled-out Ceredigion campsite is in a national nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest, with splendid views out over the Dyfi estuary. The estuary, of course, leads down to the coast – and it’s not far away at all, with the dunes of Ynyslas beach just under a mile and a half away (about a half-hour walk or couple of minutes in the car). From there you can pick up the Wales Coast Path to see some more of this gorgeous part of the Welsh coast, do some fishing or just hang out to see what kind of wildlife you can spot (out at sea or in the air perhaps). If you want to get out to sea, well, that’s possible too – there’s boat parking on site, and you can launch or store boats at the village boatyard less than a mile away. If you’re travelling with smaller craft, you can launch kayaks or paddleboards onto the estuary from the site. Staying on land, there are lots of bike trails nearby and the excellent Dyfi Bike Park is about 25 minutes’ drive away. Pitches here are flat and well maintained, with access to fresh water and waste disposal as well as toilets (compost loos and portable toilets). You’re welcome to bring a barbecue to cook meals; pick up the essentials in Borth, a couple of miles away, or bigger Aberystwyth (20 minutes’ drive). The coast, the local villages and the main town all have plenty to offer by way of places to eat out too – not forgetting the option of a Michelin-starred meal 10 minutes’ drive away in Furnace.

What customers say

This peaceful campsite boasts beautiful estuary and mountain views, plus beach access. Reviewers loved the friendly owners, quiet vibe, and clean basic washrooms. Called a "hidden gem" for wild camping with ample space. Some noted long grass, molehills, and no bins or hot water for dishes. A few felt it was pricey for the amenities. Wind and geese were occasionally mentioned. A recent review noted a negative owner interaction, contrary to past praise.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked "This was my 3rd time here. The first two times last year were amazing: a quiet, peaceful place with clean toilets and proper sinks, about a 20-minute walk to the sea. Back then, the hosts seemed so sweet and kind. They gave us great tips about the local area and even told us that their own daughter lived close to my hometown, which is a 3.5-hour drive from the campsite. We felt a real connection and were so excited for the site to reopen this year. I brought my 70-year-old parents and my 10-year-old daughter, expecting another wonderful family trip. I booked 2 nights, but it turned into a massive disappointment. The hosts have become incredibly tense and argumentative. First, the owner came to lecture me about not lighting fires on the grass. I showed him that I was just using a small Tesco tripod BBQ grill, not making a campfire. He said OK, but came back half an hour later just to complain about something else. It completely ruined the mood. I am 40 years old, I don’t drink alcohol, and I paid for a peaceful holiday, not to be constantly lectured. The worst part happened around 11:30 PM. It was pitch black, and the toilet was about 50 meters away from my tent, so I took my daughter there with a flashlight. While waiting for me, she was holding the flashlight and probably playing with it a bit. As we were walking back to our tent to sleep, someone came running up from behind us in the dark with a dog, screaming at the top of his lungs: 'You will not shine light into other tents! You will not!' My daughter was absolutely terrified. I told him to calm down and explained that nobody was looking into tents. This completely ruined our vacation. The next morning, I decided to pack up and leave. We didn't even stay for the second night that we had already paid for, and we will never come back. To top it off, in the morning I apologized to the neighbors from those tents just in case, and they said they hadn’t seen or heard a thing. The hosts are being paranoid and aggressive, destroying the reputation of what used to be a great place."

From the manager: Okay.
A little context, I thought the fire was on the ground and out of control and you showed me it was 3" off with a metal tray under it. I then went and got you a stone slab to put under it.
The light was another matter, you walked around vans and tents on the way to the toilet shinning through the windows at 11.30. Then when I came down the powerful light got flashed in my eyes.
I was firm but not aggressive. WE ARE HAVING WILD FIRES everywhere in the Wales and UK.
I would have thought a 40 year old would have more common sense

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The spaciousness so that campers could have a lot of space between them and enough to spread out in their own pitch. Plenty of flat areas to pitch. Close to the beach and Borth, as well as many areas of interest within driving distance. The great position allows for some decent walks. The owners are very friendly and helpful, keeping the onsite toilets clean and serviced.

Disliked There is some noise from trains but not enough to destroy the peace and quiet of the site.
