  • Quiet family-friendly campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Cardigan Bay
  • Direct access to Wales Coast Path; Cei Bach Beach 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dogs welcome; licensed bistro, farm shop and a play barn on site
Sitting between the seaside towns of Aberaeron and New Quay, Moody Meadows is a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from spectacular Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion. And not only is it family-run, it’s also very family-friendly, with a whole host of facilities to make life easy on site. These include a farm shop for topping up on supplies, a licensed bistro for those days when you can’t be bothered to spark up the barbecue and a play barn to keep kids safely occupied. The level, tree-lined pitches are all fully serviced with a lawned area for sitting out. Thoughtful additions in the shower block (it has disabled facilities) include hair dryers and a laundrette, and should you be bringing dogs with you, there’s also a dedicated dog wash area for cleaning muddy paws. With easy access off the A487, this quiet site is a convenient base for exploring Ceredigion, its beaches, historic sites and wildlife – watch out for red kites inland and dolphins in Cardigan Bay. A footpath leads from the site to the village of Llwyncelyn (10 minutes’ stroll), and a short walk from there takes you onto the scenic Wales Coast Path… You won’t need a car to explore the area, but a good pair of walking boots is essential.

FHU cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Another lovely stay at Moody Meadows. I’ve stayed here several times now and it’s always somewhere I’m happy to come back to.

It’s peaceful, relaxed and has a really welcoming feel, with plenty of space and beautiful countryside around you. It’s also great for staying with Oscar, my dog, which makes such a difference when I’m travelling with him.

A lovely, quiet place to settle in after a long day, and consistently a great stay. I’ll definitely be back again!

Liked Not much

Disliked 1. The staff at the soft play desk didn’t tell us about a discount when booking. When discovering this I asked for a refund of the amount we were overcharged. Was told this wasn’t possible as a manager wasn’t in.
2. The staff at the trampoline park were awful. The trampoline park had too many people booked for how many trampolines were available meaning we spent a chunk of time stood waiting. The staff ignored children blatantly not following the rules. A child injured themselves and people continued to play on the basketball bit. My children queued to play on this. A member of staff was very rude telling them to get off as the person was injured. My children listened and came away. However the staff allowed others to continue to play which meant my children had to queue up again!
3. The flooring is absolutely not built for tent camping. You’re made to pay extra for concrete pegs. All of our beds popped and our tent now has holes in.
4. The noise at night is not monitored by staff. We were kept awake both nights of our stay by guests being extremely loud. Have never experienced a campsite where workers don’t check on noise levels at night. When asked for a partial refund due to being unable to sleep during our stay was told this was not an option.
5. Witnessed staff being rude to guests and having conflicts with them during our 2 night stay.

From the manager: Good morning,
Thank you for your review, we welcome all feedback from our guests and use guest feedback to be the very best we can be!

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us, hopefully I can address some of the issues you have raised. We do indeed offer a discount for our on-site activities to our camping guests. This is communicated via email in guests' Welcome Letter and a voucher is usually given at check-in. Our soft play and trampoline park are both open to members of the public, so our staff in these areas do not openly offer the discount to anyone that walks in, as the discount is reserved for our on-site desk and without the voucher the Play Barn and Trampoline Park staff have no way to check whether guests are actually staying on site with us.

The participant limits we work to in the Crazy Cow are set in place by a combination of the Design Risk Assessment (carried out by the manufacturer/installer), our insurers and our own on-site risk assessment. All of the above have deemed the number of participants as appropriate and acceptable for the number of activities available. I apologise if you feel that there are too many participants at once, but please rest assured that we have a safe capacity that we strictly stick to, as agreed with our insurers, to ensure that everyone participating remains safe, and able to enjoy the equipment.

We advertise as much as is possible that all of our pitches are hardstandings and that we do not allow tents or awnings to be pitched on the lawns. We do not make our guests purchase rock pegs, but strongly recommend that guests wishing to pitch a tent or awning bring them with them, as well as a sturdy groundsheet.

In terms of the overnight noise you have mentioned, please accept my apologies. We have a site warden that makes regular patrols and will engage with noisy campers to ask them to keep it down after 10pm. We do have an out of hours number available for our guests to call. Unfortunately, as we explained via email, had you let us know of the issues you had experienced on your first night, we could have intervened and ensured the issue was dealt with. We also had not received any other complaints of noise from the two nights that you were here,

Finally, we receive consistently good feedback on our staff across the entire business. We strive to create an atmosphere where our guests feel like they are part of the family. The conflict you have mentioned was with a guests who was being aggressive and abusive - something we do not tolerate on our site - and the guests was asked politely to leave so as to not spoil anyone else's enjoyment of the site.

Please accept my apologies again that you did not enjoy your stay with us, I hope this response has been able to shed some light on some of the issues you experienced.

A great stay, facilities & staff were great, would definitely return.

FHU cement/asphalt campsite (large)

Liked Lovely site, very well maintained. Check in was straight forward and staff members show you to your pitch. The on site shop has plenty of stock including fresh veg and meat. The restaurant on site was very good. Plenty for families to do on site. Dog friendly including the dog wash and dog field and walk. Washing machine and dryer also which is very handy.

Local attractions

Take forays along the Wales Coast Path (direct access from the site), or pack a picnic and march the family down to sand-and-shingle Cei Bach Beach (50 minutes’ stroll/10 minutes’ drive) to see if you can spot dolphins playing in the waves. If the kids catch the wildlife bug, take them to see the birds of prey and butterfly house at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (55 minutes’ drive), where they can also encounter giant animal sculptures on lakeside walks. Learn more about the history of this corner of Ceredigion with a visit to the National Wool Museum (25 minutes), housed in a historic mill packed with original spinning looms; there are entertaining craft workshops for families. Fans of the combustion engine can see 19th-century machines in motion at The Internal Fire Museum of Power (20 minutes), giving an insight into the development of steam power. Staying with the heritage theme, tour the handsome John Nash-designed villa and lakeside gardens at National Trust - Llanerchaeron (10 minutes). If your offspring need an antidote to all that history, the crescent-shaped sandy beach at New Quay (10 minutes’ drive) has rock pools for crabbing and is backed by ice cream stalls and cafés.
