  • Rural dog-friendly site by a river 10 minutes’ drive from Dumfries
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; half an hour from the sea
  • Modern showers and disabled facilities; awnings provided; shop nearby
If you’re after a well-serviced spot to park up for the night or are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set in several acres of countryside, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. The lively town of Dumfries (10 minutes) is a surefire bet for picking up food or any other bits and bobs. If you’re having a break from the stove, take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce while you’re there. There's another shop five minutes' walk from the site. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include a shower block with wet rooms and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

What customers say

Immaculately clean, well-kept site praised for friendly staff, peaceful vibe, and great facilities like a games room & spacious pitches. Dog field with river access is a hit. Convenient to Dumfries. Some suggest more washrooms during peak times; shower placement in games room noted as a bit odd. Highly recommended for quality & value.

Liked Lovely little site. The manager was very helpful. Easy to find and just off the road which was good for us. The shower room was a lovely size and hot running water.
My son enjoyed the games room too.

I used the washing machine which was the cheapest one we’ve come across during our tour of the UK.

Disliked Nothing.

From the manager: Lisa thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, and a really nice review at that.

It's so nice to hear you say that we have a lovely little site. Also that the manager was very helpful. The team always try to make our guests feel very welcome and help them when needed.

Lisa you said that the site was easy to find. Yes we are very lucky to be directly off the A76, so no winding country lanes, but also the touring site is away from the main road, so you can enjoy a peaceful setting with beautiful views and a lovely walk alongside the river.

Thank you for saying the shower room was a lovely size and hot running water. We do have a lot of our guest comment how lovely the showers are and it nice to have a lovely size room to get dried and changed in.

It's also nice to hear your son enjoyed the free games room.

Our laundry facilities are used by many of our guests and it's nice to hear it was the cheapest you've come across during the tour of the UK. We are not one of the big company campsites where their aim is to make a lot of money. Our site is a family run site and we want our guests to have an enjoyable stay and not feel like we run the site just for the money.

Thank you again for your lovely review Lisa.

Liked Site was lovely and clean, can’t fault anything about it. Very quiet and peaceful. I read a few reviews before going and wasn’t sure what to expect but I would say that people are just to pernickety.

Thank you so much for staying with us Ryan, especially after you saying that you didn't know what to expect after reading a few reviews. So it's nice to hear you say that other reviews were people being just being pernickety.

Liked Showers were amazing! Lovely campsite, everyone was friendly, pitches were clean and tidy and everything was maintained to highest standard

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Luke for taking the time to leave such a glowing review. It means a lot to the hardworking team.

It sounds like you had a very enjoyable stay, which is what we want to hear, and strive for.

Your feedback regarding the amazing showers, friendly staff, and high standards of maintenance, really highlights how hard the team work to achieve this for our guests, and to making an excellent campsite for our campers.

A clean and tidy environment, especially the facilities and pitches, plus the team being so welcoming, we know can make all the difference to a good camping trip.

Thank you again Luke. We hope you will come and stay with us again soon.

Liked CLEANLINESS OF SHOWER AND TOILET WITH PLENTY OF HOT WATER

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

It's good to hear that you appreciated the cleanliness of the showers and toilets with plenty of hot water.

It's disappointing that you have only rated us an 8 without giving the reason for your rating, especially as you have answered that you would stay again and recommend to friends. Most of our reviews are 10's and some guests saying that 'it's the best site that they have ever stayed on'.

All reviews are acknowledged, so it would of been useful to know the reason for your rating of 8, so we could address it.

Liked Nice surroundings, close to Town.

Disliked Most staff were nice but one individual at the park was rather grumpy/abrupt. We found the toilet and shower situation a bit odd, having one of the two ‘domestic type’ showers at the end of the games room where children were playing and the other attached to reception a walk away.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. The team acknowledge all feed back.

We are sorry to hear that one of members of the team seemed grumpy/abrupt, that is not usually case and we apologise. Most of our reviews say how friendly the team are.

It would have been good to know why you found the team member grumpy/abrupt and the circumstances. For example, if they had asked you to move off the grass, because if that was the case, we ask that because is a fire break between pitches. But we are pleased you found most of the staff nice.

With regard to the toilet and shower situation, yes there is a shower/toilet and separate toilet off the games room, which is usually quiet, but there are 2 further shower/toilets a very short walk away by reception. There are a lot of other campsites that have their toilets a good 10 minute walk away, so we are disappointed you saying it's 'a walk a way'. With regard to children playing in the games room when you were accessing the toilets and shower, as of the 2nd week in august we are only taking bookings from adults, but we are honouring existing upcoming bookings with children.

We are also very disappointed that you that you have rated us a 5 when you the only thing you found disappointing was a member of team being grumpy/abrupt and accessing the toilets through our games room.

But we acknowledge your feedback.

From the manager: We appreciate that you have left a review, as the team acknowledge all feedback given by our guests. But we are very disappointed with the low rating you gave us, especially as all you have said in your review is that our site was clean and quiet.

You have also ticked the option to say you that you would recommend to friends and you would stay again, so we are perplexed with the lower rating you have left.

We would really appreciate if you could amend your rating and give us more feedback.

Thank you for staying with us and we hope you will come back soon.

Liked Very peaceful site close to Dumfries and with easy access to activities either along the coast to sandy beaches or into the hills and forests for walking and biking. Appreciated the large field adjacent to the site to walk the dog.
Will come back.

Disliked Not very keen on the showers and toilets that were accessed through the indoor play area.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Deborah thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review.

We are so pleased you found our site very peaceful, but like you said close to Dumfries and other places of interest, like the coast or forests.

It sounds like your dog had fun too, in our large field alongside the river on site.

Deborah we are sorry to hear you were not keen on the shower and toilets being accessed through the games room. But there was always the option of further showers and toilets in close proximity, a very short walk away, next to reception.

But it's great to hear Deborah that you will come back.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out for all the family, with its stellar art collection, woodland walks and adventure playground. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
