  • Adults-only site by a river half an hour's drive from the coast
  • A 10-minute drive to Dumfries; half an hour to Galloway Forest Park
  • Lounge area with a pool table; shop nearby; peaceful location
If you’re after a relaxing, well-equipped spot to park up for just the night or you are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern, adults-only holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set over several acres, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. There are major supermarkets and a retail park within five minutes' drive of the site for picking up food and other bits and bobs. A petrol station selling essentials is a 10-minute walk from the site; next door to the petrol station is a café inside a pet shop that serves lovely breakfasts, lunches and delicious cakes and scones. Take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce in Dumfries, 10 minutes' drive away, too. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include two showers, a wheelchair-accessible wet room and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

Liked The pitches were well-maintained and spacious. There was a dog walk close by and good, clean facilities. Staff were also friendly and accommodating of our arrival (which was later than planned). We stayed in our rooftent without any issue. This is a great site, and we will definitely be back!

Liked The whole park is great, liked the layout, facilities etc. Great leisure room inside with coffee/tea and biscuits. Very close to Dumfries and its attractions.

Disliked Limited toilet/showers facilities at the motorhome area but this wasn’t an issue, as I just showered later in the morning.

From the manager: Frans we really appreciate you taking the time to leave us a lovely review.

The team are pleased to hear you comment about the cleanliness of the site and how friendly the staff are.

We understand the needs of campers with tents, that's why there is a fridge provided in the games room, along with a microwave and the facilities to make a hot drink with the option to watch tv on the comfy sofas.

As the comment about a camp shop, we have a petrol station 10 minutes walk away that provides all your basics and more.

Frans it's nice to see you would recommend us to friends.

Thank you again.

Liked The site was immaculate, the staff were lovely, the facilities were excellent and very clean and stocked. Access was secure and the permanent residents were very friendly towards touring guests. The dog walking area was very well maintained and had beautiful views across the countryside (even excellent for a morning run). We will definitely be returning.

Disliked Could do with one more shower near the touring end as some guests like to be in the showers all morning, some of whom ironically have showers in their vans?!

It's lovely to hear you say you found the site was immaculate, the staff were lovely, the facilities were excellent and very clean and stocked.

We are pleased you found the access was secure and found the permanent residents were very friendly towards touring guests. The dog walking area is a real asset to the site and we are pleased you found that it was very well maintained and enjoyed the beautiful views across the countryside. The team really liked your comment saying that it's even excellent for a morning run!!

But the team's favourite comment: We will definitely be returning!!

Disliked: Could do with one more shower near the touring end as some guests like to be in the showers all morning, some of whom ironically have showers in their vans?!
Yes we find a lot of campers appreciate how nice our unlimited showers are and do spend extra time in them.

We appreciate your feedback though regarding the shower locations. The additional showers by reception are close by with only a 2 min walk and are used regularly by other campers, some of them saying they prefer the showers by reception. But we do take all feedback on board as we continue the upkeep of the park.

Thank you so much Les for your Private feedback. The feedback meant a lot to the team and we hope it won't be too long before you return.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out too, with its stellar art collection and woodland walks. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around the impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
