  • Rural dog-friendly site by a river 10 minutes’ drive from Dumfries
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; half an hour from the sea
  • Modern showers and disabled facilities; awnings provided; shop nearby
If you’re after a well-serviced spot to park up for the night or are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set in several acres of countryside, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. The lively town of Dumfries (10 minutes) is a surefire bet for picking up food or any other bits and bobs. If you’re having a break from the stove, take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce while you’re there. There's another shop five minutes' walk from the site. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include a shower block with wet rooms and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

Clean, well-kept new site with spacious, level spots & lovely rural views. Staff are friendly & helpful. Great dog walks to the river & popular games room. Only downside: limited toilets/showers & some inconveniently located facilities.

Liked Friendly greeting at reception. Dog walking area down to river. Location.

Disliked Toilets off the games room. Long walk to alternative toilets/showers. Noisy at night. Dogs seemingly allowed to roam off lead, with no checks. Too many lights on at night. Found one camper sleeping in the games room with dog running free. Vehicles driving on site after 11pm.

From the manager: Gary thank you for leaving us a review.

We are pleased you had a friendly greeting at reception when you checked in. The team try to make everyone feel welcome and give them as much information as possible when checking in.

It's good to hear you like the location and the dog walking area down by the river. We are very lucky to be in a beautiful location with good transport links, beautiful scenery, but close to the historical town of Dumfries and local amenities.

Gary we are disappointed to hear it was noisy at night. In the site rules we do state that noise must be at a minimum between 11pm & 7am.

Yes we have one toilet and a shower/toilet off the games room, but the other showers/toilets are a short 2 minute walk away at reception.

We were unaware of any dogs roaming off the lead on the touring site, and if we had been made aware, we would of addressed the situation straight away.

There was no one sleeping in the games room Gary. We were aware of a family that were in a tent and they had a takeaway delivered and ate it in the games room. Late that evening when we did the toilet checks the family & gentleman had returned to their tent. The following morning the father was in the games room again while his daughter had a shower. So it may of seemed to you that he had slept in there, but that wasn't the case.

We have low level lights so it's easy for campers to find the toilets/facilities, their accommodation easily when it's dark. The lights are not very bright and don't disturb anyone in tents, campervans, motorhomes, etc.

Occasionally Gary we have local events going on, and some campers do arrive back a little later. But we ask all our guests to be considerate to other guests, which they usually do.

Gary on the site plan there are telephone numbers to ring in case of any problems. If you had made us aware of these problems while on site, like we said, we could off addressed these problems straightaway.

We want all our guests to have an enjoyable stay, and we very rarely have any issues, so it's upsetting to the whole team when we hear one of our guests has had issues.

Thank you again for your review Gary.

From the manager: We thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review.

It's nice to hear you say we have good facilities and a games room, and that you also found the site very clean and very good Wi-Fi signal.

With regards to the farm vehicles working in the next field late at night, unfortunately once a year the farmer mows the field and has to get in the bales in quickly while the weather is dry. As you can appreciate in Scotland we do get rain, so as the saying goes 'Make hay while the sun shines'.

You have put that you would recommend our site and would visit again, so we hope you will visit again soon.

Thank you again for your review.

Liked Extremely clean and well maintained.
Flat gravel pitches (some grass for tents).
Quiet with great views.
Friendly and helpful staff/owners.

Disliked As have others, I have to mention the toilet situation.
There are 4 toilets, 3 of which are in a room with a shower which means that when the site is full (15 pitches plus tents) and the showers are all in use, there is only one toilet available, which week inevitably lead to queues.
In addition, access to one of the shower rooms and the sole toilet is through the lounge/games room which feels a bit "weird".
The site really could do with a separate block of just toilets.
There's is free WiFi, but we couldn't get any bandwidth at the far end of the site

From the manager: Jill thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

We are pleased you found the site extremely clean & well maintained. The team work hard to keep up the high standards on site.

Jill It's nice to hear you liked the great views & how quiet the park was.

With regard to the staff/owners, we always try to make our guests feel welcomed & have a friendly face on arrival.

We are sorry to hear that there were queues for the toilets & showers. Your comments have been passed on to the owners.

Thank you again for your review Jill.

Liked Very friendly and helpful bloke that run the site, everywhere was immaculate and clean, about 2 mile walk into Dumfries Although a 246 bus runs past with a bus stop being right on the entrance. An excellent field next to the site for dog walkers all mowed with paths through the long grass.

Disliked Although the shower and toilet are kept immaculate they are in the games room, so you have to walk through people playing pool and teenagers just hanging around to go to the toilet or shower

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Ian we really appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review.

It's nice to hear you found our warden very friendly & helpful. He works very hard to keep everywhere immaculate & clean.

We are very lucky to be in the countryside but also very close to Dumfries centre. It's a nice walk into Dumfries, but as you noted there is a bus stop just outside the site straight into Dumfries.

You like many guests Ian find the field on site for dog walking/walking excellent with a mowed path all the way around, with lovely views and alongside the river.

Ian as for the toilet & shower situation, it should of been made aware to you at check in that we have 2 further showers/toilets a short 2 minute walk next to reception. But we pleased you found the toilets & shower off the games room immaculate.

Thank you again Ian for taking the time to leave us a review.

We will be back here for sure.

Liked Great location for us as we have family in Dumfries and it was so easy to see them. Really peaceful location too - bit of traffic noise but you don't notice it after a while.

Great games room and washing area - the dog walking route is perfect too.

Great check in from Mick - really friendly and helpful.

Disliked More showers perhaps - only 2 on site - 1 at the touring pitches and 1 at reception.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Jenny thank you for your kind review.

We are pleased to hear we are an ideal location for you to visit family in Dumfries & pleased you found the site really peaceful.

It's nice to hear that you thought the games room & washing up area were great.

We are pleased you found the dog walking route perfect too. Yes we are very lucky to have such a lovely open field along side the river with beautiful views.

Mick is very helpful & friendly and we are pleased that you appreciated that.

Jenny If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, we do hear a little of the traffic noise, but there are trees and another large area with holiday lodges in between the road and the touring site so we don't tend to hear the noise very often.

We actually have 4 toilets & 3 showers on site. 1 toilet & 1 shower/toilet next the touring pitches and 2 showers/toilets a short 2 minute walk away next to reception

Thank you again for your review Jenny, we really appreciate it.

Liked Was lovely n peaceful..large pitches..clean facilities..value for money

Disliked Only 1 shower for approx 15 pitches..I like to pitch on grass because of the awning

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Jeni, thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

It's so nice to hear you found our site lovely & peaceful, that you enjoyed the large pitches, clean facilities and, said we offered good value for money.

Jeni there are actually 3 showers on site and 4 toilets, some being just a short walk from the touring pitches, which should of been made aware to you on check-in.

As for liking to pitch your awning on grass, we like to keep the grass between pitches as privacy between you and your neighbours. But Jeni if you had asked we would of tried to help with that for you.

Thank you again for your review Jeni.

We hope you will come and stay with us again soon.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out for all the family, with its stellar art collection, woodland walks and adventure playground. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
