  • Adults-only site by a river half an hour's drive from the coast
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; 10 minutes from Dumfries
  • Games room with a pool table; shop nearby; peaceful location
If you’re after a relaxing, well-equipped spot to park up for just the night or you are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern, adults-only holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set over several acres, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. There are major supermarkets and a retail park within five minutes' drive of the site for picking up food and other bits and bobs. A petrol station selling essentials is a 10-minute walk from the site; next door to the petrol station is a café inside a pet shop that serves lovely breakfasts, lunches and delicious cakes and scones. Take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce in Dumfries, 10 minutes' drive away, too. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include two showers, a wheelchair-accessible wet room and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

What customers say

This well-kept, quiet site has friendly staff & spacious pitches. Showers & games room get rave reviews. A large, secure dog field by a river is a highlight. Close to Dumfries. Some wished for more facilities during peak times; occasional road noise. Highly recommended, many plan to return.

Liked Everything! The welcome, the pitch. The showers were like an en-suite. Fabulous games room. Good dog walking field. Good elsan point & laundry room ( but didnt use it this time). The site is immaculate. Quiet site.

From the manager: Betsy thank you for leaving us such a lovely review, the team really do appreciate it.

It's wonderful to hear you liked EVERYTHING!!

We are thrilled to hear you liked the:
Welcome - we aim to make every guest feel welcome and enjoy their stay.
The pitch - all our pitches are hardstanding with EHU with plenty of room for an awning and park your car.
The Showers - a lot of our guests comment about the showers being like an en-suite, and comment it's like their shower at home.
Fabulous games room - our games room is a big hit with guests especially the free pool table and free table football, with the added bonus of a comfy seating area.
Good dog walking field - we are very lucky to have on site a large dog walking/walking field alongside a beautiful river, with a mowed path all the way round the field, with a couple of benches to just sit and enjoy the beautiful countryside views.
Good Elsan point - our elsan point is very easy to use and close to the touring pitches
Laundry room - inside the laundry room there is a washing machine and tumble dryer to use at a small cost, and also inside there is a washing up area with hot water.

Betsy thank you for saying the site is immaculate and quiet. The team work really hard to keep the site looking immaculate for all our guests.

Thank you again Betsy for your wonderful feedback. We hope you will come back and stay with us again soon.

Liked Spotlessly clean, good sized and level pitches. Easy access to motorhome service points. Bathroom and showers in excellent condition. Liked the separate lounge area with microwave and games.

Disliked Recently introduced child free policy which is a shame as it limits options to families visiting the area. Also seems strange given landscaped play area on site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Gillian than you for taking the time to leave us a review. We read every review we receive.

We are so pleased to hear you found the site spotlessly clean and that we have good sized level pitches. Other guests like yourself Gillian have also appreciated our how easy the access is to the motorhome service point.

It's nice to hear you found the bathroom and showers in excellent condition. Guest appreciate that we have good sized shower rooms making it easier to get dried & dressed.

Gillian we have had lots of our campers comment about our lounge area in the games room saying they found that it's so comfy and that we also have a microwave for guests to use.

But with regard to us taking the decision to change the touring site to adult only, was not an easy decision, but was taken because of continued disrespect and costly damage caused by children around the whole of the park. They have spoilt it for all the well-behaved children.

As for the play area in the landscaped area in front of the holiday lodges, is there for the holiday lodge owners grandchildren to play on.

Gillian thank you again for your review and also clicking the boxes to say you would stay again and also recommend us to friends.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out too, with its stellar art collection and woodland walks. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around the impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
