  • Adults-only pitches in a peaceful Ayrshire walled garden
  • Girvan beach and boat trips 15 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Ayr
  • In a certified dark-skies area for excellent stargazing
Lovely views by day, fabulous dark skies by night – and a truly peaceful atmosphere at all hours. That’s the rather tempting offering at The Walled Garden Touring Park, an adults-only site in rural Ayrshire about 10 minutes’ drive from Maybole. As the name suggests, pitches here are set in an attractive walled garden that’s part of the historic Kilkerran Estate – a location that provides both shelter and some lovely greenery and trees as the backdrop for your stay. There’s an electric hookup for each pitch, and you’ll also have access to shared facilities including a laundry room, a washing-up area, a fridge and a freezer. Toilets and showers are provided, and there’s also a chemical disposal point for the tourers. There’s a very peaceful atmosphere at this park, so you should really be able to relax as you stoke your barbecue in the evening and wait for the stars to come out. This is a certified dark-skies area so you should be in for a treat (as long as the clouds behave…). By day, you may like to start with a short stroll to the nearby waterfall before heading out into the wider area for some time hiking, cycling or exploring the region’s castles. Ayr is about 20 minutes’ drive away for some town time, and it’s a 15-minute journey to Girvan for the beach, coast walks and boat trips to Ailsa Craig. Dogs are welcome at the park, so feel free to bring them along to help you explore this quiet corner of the Scottish countryside.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Friendly welcome from owner and seasonal residents. Big open, pleasant site. Facilities spotless. Filled 5 days without ever travelling more than 30mins from site. Loads of birdsong. Calm and relaxing.

Disliked Woodland walks a quagmire after rain, but not the fault of the site!

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review — we’re delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. It’s great to hear you felt welcomed by both ourselves and our seasonal guests, and that you found the park peaceful, spotless, and a perfect base for exploring Ayrshire without needing to travel far. The birdsong has been incredible lately, so we’re glad you got to enjoy that calm, relaxing atmosphere.
You’re absolutely right about the woodland walks — they can get a bit muddy after heavy rain, but they’re still a beautiful option when the weather’s kinder. We appreciate you mentioning it so future guests know what to expect.
We’d love to welcome you back for another tranquil break whenever you’re ready.

Liked Peaceful site, great hosts. Clean facilities. Lovely walks from the site.

Disliked A little bit isolated - but that is the charm, isn’t it?

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

We hope to see you again soon.

Local attractions

This part of the world is sometimes nicknamed the ‘Ayrshire Alps’, and it’s an excellent area for days of hiking and mountain biking – some of it pretty challenging, it should be said. There are gentler walks and bike rides to be had nearby too, along with other outdoor activities like horse riding, fishing and golf. The Galloway Forest Park (20 minutes’ drive) is a particularly good spot for some time spent among woodland and lake scenery – but don’t head home too early as this is also a Gold-Tier Dark Sky Park (the first in the UK to be designated as such, in fact). Bring your telescope or binoculars along, or see if any tours and events are being run by the Dark Sky Rangers. To take in some of the area’s heritage, head to places like Culzean Castle and Souter Johnnies Cottage or spend some time in Ayr, visiting the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (all 20 minutes away). Over at the coast, Girvan’s sandy beach (15 minutes) is a nice place to visit, and there are boat trips to wildlife-rich Ailsa Craig.
