Blackacre Barn

9.7

General

  • Simple but scenic Somerset site between Wincanton and Templecombe
  • A 15-minute drive to Stourhead; 25 minutes to Longleat
  • Five-acre field with rural views; five minutes' drive from the A303

Blackacre Barn is a simple but scenic site in the south Somerset countryside, with pitches spread across a spacious five-acre field between Wincanton and Templecombe (and about five minutes’ drive from both).

Look all around you and you’ll see classic countryside views – so it might be hard to believe that this is in fact a particularly handy spot for road-trip stopovers. The site is accessed from the A357, with the A303 about a five-minute drive away (handy knowledge) for those heading across country to/from Devon or Cornwall…)

That said, there’s a whole lot more to this place than simply somewhere to sling your bags down for a night or two. The likes of Glastonbury, Bath and Bruton are close by, as are all sorts of attractions including Stourhead, Longleat and Wookey Hole.

Facilities on site are fairly simple but include toilets, showers and water points. Dogs are welcome, as are barbecues (you’ll just need to check the rules for both so that everyone can have a safe stay). There's a pub half a mile away if you fancy an evening out – or there are places to eat in both of the nearby towns.

This was our first time Glamping in a Bell tent,on arrival we were welcomed by our Hosts Mark and Sam who were very friendly and welcoming
Our Bell Tent was clean and beds were made with thick matching duvets and given extra blankets which came in handy at night!.We were also given a welcome basket of snacks, crisps and water.
The Eco Lav was different but good, and the shower was nice and hot too.
In the Morning our Host brought down breakfast rolls, cakes, tea and Coffee.
The site is peaceful and had Beautiful Scenaries
We will Definitely be returning again next year

    Thank you Mark and Sam

Brilliant service by hosts who were incredibly attentive and welcoming. They couldn’t do enough for us throughout the 2 nights we were there. Superb service! The shower was particularly impressive too; beautifully warm even when there were multiple guests using it consecutively.

The hosts were fantastic and really helpful. We stayed in a bell tent which was spacious, comfortable, modern and exceptionally clean. There were complimentary snacks and water for when we arrived. There was one toilet and one shower on site, both were clean and the shower was amazing with plenty of hot water and good pressure. They also provided breakfast which was an egg/bacon/sausage roll with tea and coffee.

    Disliked:

Electric would be good and a kettle to make your own tea and coffee in the mornings. Mattresses would be better than air beds and although the beds had thick quilts on, we were very cold in the night for some reason. Sleeping bags may be better.

There were 2 bell tents, 3 other families in tents and a camper van. I think they would need more toilets and showers should any more people stay at one time.

An area to dispose of rubbish would have been good or supply bin bags with the bell tent. Having said that the hosts did take the rubbish away.

From the manager...

Firstly, thank you for choosing our new campsite, it was our pleasure having you all here.
Thank you also for your constructive criticism, we have taking note of your comments and have now added the following:-
small gas cooker with kettle and tea cups.
Added wooden crates for rubbish and recycling disposal
Extra blankets for all campers if the weather turns cold
We Thank you again and look forward to seeing you in the future

This was an excellent stopover site close to A303. The large field has lovely views of rolling hills with plenty of space to choose your perfect pitch. Brand new compost toilet and hot shower units were just what we wanted. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we wish them well in this new venture!
