Cheddar Bridge Touring Park: August Balloon Fiesta

General

  • Award-winning, peaceful and adults-only park
  • Overlooking the Mendip Hills; River Yeo flowing through the grounds
  • A short stroll to Cheddar village and Cheddar Gorge

How is Cheddar Bridge Touring Park gorge-ous? Let its flow of former guests count the wheys: it’s scenic, award-winning and overlooks the Mendip Hills; it’s a former Cheddar in Bloom winner for its viewsome flowers, and it has the River Yeo flowing through it – just look at those pics.

If you’re a peace-loving peep, you might also brie chuffed to know that Cheddar Bridge is firmly for ages 18 and over, so no footballs should bang against your holiday home wall at six in the morning (unless your other half really can’t help it…).

Once you’re nice and rested, it’s a short stroll from the site to comely Cheddar village, simply striking Cheddar Gorge and the Mendips, the limestone hills that are part of a Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Norman Ancient Monument and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

New Year stay. Well laid out site with good, clean, facilities. Apartment available on site where our nnon-caravanning friends stayed. Helpful staff.

    Disliked:

Hard standing quote small -not normally an issue, but hard to keep of the very soft grass (mud) areas in winter. Main entrance narrow for caravans.

This site is as all of the good reviews have previously said.
Well laid out good sized pitches.
    Relaxed and friendly site managers.
    Lovely setting and location
    All facilities as needed.
Close easy access to Cheddar village and surrounding area.
Yes as other reviews note showers are dated BUT i have to say in 10 years of touring they are some of the cleanest i have seen.

    Disliked:

Not a real dislike on our part as such but for note there can be some noise from the footpath next to the site. This is completely out of the sites control and just something to consider whether you can put up with it or not didn't spoil our stay.

What a little gem of a site !! I stayed here over Christmas for 4 nights. There was a lovely warm welcome from the proprietors with Christmas sweeties ! Lovely large, well drained, level hard standing pitches. Great facilities... spotlessly clean. Nice big shower cubicles. Easy access to Cheddar Village via a tarmac footpath that runs along the back of the site beside the river so no need to walk along the busy road. Will definitely be going back and recommending to friends !

Friendly welcoming site. Spotlessly maintained and cleaned grounds and facilities. Very good location for walking into Cheddar. Levelish pitch on hard standing although needed ramps for minor adjustment. The facilities aren’t as modern as some but they work and are spotless. We would return. River Yeo runs alongside one side of site.

The pitches were level, the site was very secure. The facilities were very good and always clean. Washing up areas were both inside which was a bonus in the rain.
Staff were friendly. Location was great with local shops just a few minutes away.Pubs and takeaways were roughly 10 mins walk from site.

    Disliked:

My only point to make here is if you have a large awning the pitches are not that big and you have to leave a 10ft gap between awning and next pitch making things a bit snug.

Directions

Leave the M5 at Junction 22 onto the A371 towards Wells. Follow the signs for Cheddar (12 miles). Continue to follow signs for Cheddar village (do not turn left for the Gorge). Pass through the village with the Stone Cross on your left, and pass the church (the road bends left).

Cheddar Bridge Caravan and Camping Park is immediately on the right. The entrance to the park is over an ancient stone bridge.

Local attractions

Cheddar Gorge and Caves first, of course: you could spend days in one spot just gaping at the gorge, but there’s also climbing and caving to be had, wandering around the heart-stopping stalactite caves (do stand and gawp here too), and puffing up Jacobs Ladder and to the Lookout Tower – it’s only about 300 steps to the tower top…

Cheddar Bridge Touring Park is roughly halfway between the seaside at Weston-super-Mare and the tiny city of Wells for at least a couple of days’ worth of trips, with Bristol and Glastonbury also within a reasonable drive. Dive into Bath, also nearby, for Roman remains, spas and Jane Austen; the literature, arts and children’s literature festivals are well worth a look too if you’re in town at the right time.

Hikers and twitchers have the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels to keep them occupied, with the Mendips also well known as a climbing and caving centre. Look out for peregrine falcons and marsh harriers in both areas; to find out more about snipes and other feathery sorts around these parts, the RSPB has a reserve at West Sedgemoor.

Savvy shopper sort? Congratulations: Wells has a market every Saturday and Wednesday, and the biggest car boot market in the south-west is on every Sunday at Winchester Farm, only a quarter of a mile from Cheddar Bridge Touring Park: bring an extra suitcase for your goodies.

Must see
