  • Quiet family-run park five minutes’ drive from Lyme Regis in Dorset
  • Charmouth 10 minutes’ drive; Beer 20 minutes; Chesil Beach 50 minutes
  • Shop and snack bar; pop-up dining in summer; pub 10 minutes’ walk
Set in peaceful countryside on the county lines between Devon and Dorset, Hook Farm Campsite in Uplyme is a peaceful, family-run holiday park in pole position for family adventures along the Jurassic Coast and in the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive). Once you’ve settled in, owners John and Jacky and their close-knit team at reception are happy to advise on sightseeing and local walks, or provide information on local events and attractions. The adjacent shop is stocked with camping essentials, basic foods and barbecue bits, as well as sweets and snacks to keep the kids going. The staples store in Uplyme (10 minutes’ walk) has anything you can’t find in the site shop, and there’s a pub serving home-cooked food and real ales. For food fanatics, pop-up food trucks stop by Hook Farm in high season, and it’s also close to River Cottage (35 minutes’ drive, famed as the restaurant of TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall), as well as an assortment of pubs and restaurants showcasing local food and drinks. The campsite is situated within a dark-skies area, so you might get lucky weatherwise and observe star-studded night skies from the comfort of your pitch.

Liked We were greeted with a warm welcome . The staff were lovely and informative . We stayed for 1 week and it was lovely . Showers were hot and there was always staff around cleaning the showers, toilets and washing up points . The views were beautiful and we see some lamas ! The sausages from the well stocked shop were amazing 🤤 I wish I bought some to take home .

Powered grass campervan campsite (medium, maximum 6 metres)

Liked So friendly and helpful.
Showers were great, toilet block was spotless.
Lovely location, peaceful and quiet even though there were dogs and children, everyone was friendly and respectful.
The ship was stocked with everything you wanted.
The pitch was level and clean.
They also allow you to stay for one night.
We have been turned away from sites in the past because we only wanted to stay for one night and were exhausted.
Will definitely be back. Thank you

Powered grass campervan campsite (medium, maximum 6 metres)

Liked Welcome at reception was really nice, service was great - had people due to come with us that dropped out and was refunded the parking money. Site was clean, had pop up food stalls, location was great.

Disliked When booking I was on the impression we had an 8x8m pitch (medium) but when setting up our 6m long Awning it was close to the gravel path and almost had to be pegged on the bank. I liked the personal touch of being chauffeured to the pitch, but after 2.5 hours in the cab it would have been nice to be given a map and could go and pitch up ourselves. It was hard to understand where pitches began/ended. I know it’s out of the sites control but the floor was rock hard, struggled terribly to get the pegs in the ground which means some parts of our awning wasn’t pegged down properly.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and would visit again. We do pitch all our guests which as you say gives a personal touch and we can advise on local walks etc. We have had very little rain this Summer as a result our ground is hard but we do sell heavy duty pegs in our shop. We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Primitive grass tent campsite (large)

Liked Peaceful, tranquil and in a beautiful location

Disliked Very strict, slightly passive aggressive and rude

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for reviewing, we had numerous complaints from other families about late noise and one guests spoke to you at 2 am asking you to be quiet. We spoke to you in the morning and luckily you had only booked for the 1 night. We are a quiet park but there are other more commercial parks which would suit you better.

Local attractions

Dedicated star-gazers can stroll up to Trinity Hill Nature Reserve (45 minutes’ walk), awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status thanks to its lack of light pollution. Hook Farm is also a handy base camp for walkers in the East Devon Natural Landscape (direct from site), and has ready access to the South West Coast Path (half an hour), while following the East Devon Way (five minutes) gives you a handy riverside shortcut down to the sea. Historic Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive) is known for the fossils and ammonites found on its sands, and is gateway to the dramatic seascapes of the Jurassic Coast. You can hunt for more ancient treasures on the beach at Charmouth (10 minutes), and wander along the pebble spit at Chesil Beach (50 minutes). The lively (and lovely) seaside town of Beer (20 minutes) has a photogenic fishing harbour and several contemporary art galleries to mooch around, and if the kids are with you, you’ll probably end up at The Donkey Sanctuary (also 20 minutes), where you can feed and cuddle rescue donkeys.
