What customers say
This quiet, private campsite gets rave reviews for its beautiful river access (great for swimming and spotting wildlife) and amazing sunsets. Pitchup.com guests love the generous space, level grounds, and peaceful vibe, perfect for stargazing and relaxing. Called a "wild camping gem," portable toilets are on-site, though some recent reviews suggest improved upkeep. Access is via a narrow bridge; solar lighting near the toilets has been suggested. Many guests return and highly recommend it.

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked If you love wild camping, you will love this site. It's a huge field with easy access to the river, has toilets, rubbish bin and picnic tables. We stayed in the middle of August on Tuesday and there were only us there, so plenty of space and privacy. Very quiet, great for river swimming, campfires, watching the stars and just connecting with the nature. Lots of space for children to play with the ball, run, etc and to have a splash / swim too. River depth varies, so suitable for all ages in different places.
There was plenty of tiny fish in the river and we saw lots of different wild birds. Certainly recommend and would go back.
Disliked Not disliked, but to be aware that the toilets are quite far from the river access points. So if you are staying near the river, the toilets are on the opposite far side of the field and it takes few minutes walk to get there.

Liked We had the entire field to ourselves, not a soul in site.
Disliked The toilets- there was 1 portaloo which was leaking all over the floor, and didn’t look well kept.

From the manager: HellIo
We are so sorry that you had a poor experience with the water on the portaloo floor. We pride ourselves on keeping the facilities clean with toilet rolls, hand sanitiser etc. and are absolutely well kept, checked twice a day.
As there are 2 portaloos on site at least you wre able to make use of the other one. We are always on the end of the phone if you have any thing to report or any queries. we really appreciate guests letting us know if they have any concerns as I thi8nk other campsites would. Naturally if there is a leak it means costs escalate so we are always very keen to repair any such issue. Fortunately the plumber was able to repair the leak the day after you left.
As we are on site twice a day we aim to meet all campers the evening they arrive or morning after, but if campers are out we might not meet everyone, so again we are sorry if we did not greet you personally and make you feel welcome.
Please accept our apologies and we will be in touch with you directly to see how we can make this up to you.

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Quietness and secluded, very few other tents on the weekend we went so plenty of space.
Disliked Two areas where river access was available had camps set up right by the entrances very awkward to go through others areas to enjoy a selling point of the site of the river for the kids maybe a suggestion to make a note to leave this free to all to use, Not a dislike but around the toilets could do with some solar lighting just to guide you towards the general area, not a problem just more of a suggestion for ease as we had lights.

From the manager: Thank you for your helpful comments and feedback.
Yes we agree and will implement those suggestions. We did have solar lights last year but they had stopped working. The pics are beautiful and your stacks are still in place! We hope to see you again.

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked We liked the “off grid” feel, it’s a lovely field next to a river so all night we had wonderful water noises and various animals like owls and other birds. The field is in a small valley so you really feel enclosed from the outside world, while still only being 15 ish minutes from Plymouth outskirts.
Very nice will be coming back.
Disliked Not really a dislike but the sat nav will did take us down some … off the beaten track roads when there’s a perfectly good road going last the entrance, easy to drive past.
