Lots of space
The road into the field

  • Level field with large pitches on the banks of the River Avon
  • Several beaches within a half-hour drive; 10 minutes to Dartmoor
  • In the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Oakenhambridge Camping is a peaceful site on the banks of the river Avon, just outside the village of Diptford up at the northern end of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s plenty of space on the large pitches here – each one measures about five square metres, and they’re all on a pleasingly level field. That means lots of scope to run about and play games, or to set up a barbecue at a safe distance from all such action. It's a simple setup here so there’s no running water or other luxuries, but you’ll have access to portable toilets in the field. Supplies for your grill can be picked up at the shops in Totnes, 15 minutes’ drive away; if you’re not in the mood for cooking, there are easy eats on hand at the family-friendly local pub – it’s just over a mile away, with a large beer garden for those warm evenings. As you’ll be staying in an officially scenic area, it’s no surprise to hear that there are lots of places to get out for walks and bike rides nearby – and the trails of Dartmoor National Park are only about 10-15 minutes away by car, too. And of course you’re never that far from the coast in Devon: here there are several lovely sandy stretches within a half-hour drive, including Blackpool Sands, Bantham beach, Torcross and Bigbury-on-Sea (where you can ride the sea tractor out to Burgh Island).

What customers say

This spot's a ripper! Locals rave about it being a hidden gem, super peaceful with a gorgeous natural backdrop. Think spacious sites, a calm river that's ace for kids and pets, and unreal stargazing thanks to no light pollution. The entrance bridge is a bit tight, but it’s no drama. Basic but clean loos and water are provided. Most folks can't wait to come back!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked The big open space, it was absolutely gorgeous and we loved the river that ran on the side of the field, made sleeping so cosy with the sound of the water! The bridge to get into the field is narrow but we only have a small car anyway so was not an issue! Myself and my partner took our dog with us, he’s a rescue so can get overwhelmed with everyday life. To see him unbothered with lots of space was amazing. A weekend well spent! We will 100% be staying again!

Disliked Could not fault it!

Liked Lovely place to enjoy silence. Large field with river Avon next by with even ground. Portable toilet blocks with water. Drinking water and bins in place. Be aware of a narrow bridge at the entrance. No shower facilities but have been aware at the booking page.

Liked This is our 3rd year returning, it's our favourite place to camp. The kids spend the whole time in the river exploring and swimming. It's quiet and tranquil. Sit by the campfire at night and it's so clear, star gazing and looking for shooting stars. Wild camping at it's best, fresh water and a clean toilet. Perfect!

Disliked In our opinion, it's perfect!
