  • Devon farm site within minutes of several beaches
  • A mile from the River Dart, two from Paignton and three from Totnes
  • Peaceful setting on 400 acres with 15 acres of apple orchards
What might you say to camping on a Devon farm only a couple of miles away from the beach, minutes from Paignton and Totnes, with views that might make you crumble? What about a site that produces its own scrumpy cider from 15 acres of on-site apple orchards among its 400 acres? Like the many returning guests of Broadleigh Farm Park, you might say it’s pretty sweet. If driving makes you crabby, the nine acres of Broadleigh Farm Park are where to base yourself to see the sights of Devon: Paignton and Totnes are two and three miles away respectively; supplies – and pubs – in the village of Stoke Gabriel about 15 minutes’ walk, and the activities and sights of Dartmoor within around half an hour’s drive. Miles of walks are available straight from the site, and for little pipsqueaks, Pennywell Farm and Paignton Zoo are both within (short) driving distance. Facilities including showers, toilets, launderette and washing-up area are kept in apple-pie order: you’ll find free hairdryers too and there are disabled facilities and a parent and baby washroom. Broadleigh is a working farm, so while dogs are welcome, please keep them on leads while on site or unless in the separate dog-walking field.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Site was very peaceful and relaxed . We arrived and easily found the helpful notice showing us our pitch, the facilities were all self explanatory and there were people with permanent caravans on the site willing to help and advise. Toilets , showers and washing up area were all clean and fresh at all times. Our non electric pitch was level and we had a view over the campsite and the hills opposite. The easy walk to Stoke Gabriel where crabbing was popular and kayaks on the River Dart were available for hire was perfect for an evening stroll. We visited Dartmouth, Paignton, Brixham and Totnes all easy to reach from the site by car , we took the train to Plymouth , plenty of trains available even on a Sunday

Disliked Unfortunately we were not on site at any time when the cider bar was open , this did not spoil our stay but would have been nice to try

Will go again!

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Really beautiful setting for this site and plenty of room. Facilities were large and clean. Bus stop just down the road takes you to the bus station st Paignton where you can go anywhere. Very useful when you don't want to move the van.

Disliked On arrival very little to no information. Had to ask for directions from other campers to find the dog walk field and the waste disposal. Shop is open just two hours in the morning which wasn't very helpful. Tokens for the washing machine really expensive and hardly did a full load.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The toilets and shower block were very good, clean and tidy. Reception on site but closed when we arrived/left so didn't use it.

Disliked When we arrived we looked for the welcome board, there wasn't one! We phoned the owner and eventually got an answer on the second time of calling only to find the notice board wasn't a board it was a piece of paper in the reception window to tell us our pitch.
We were parked right in the far corner, as far as possible from the toilets/showers. Our booking stated we were in a van so not helpful when there were other pitches nearer available and we were only staying one night. There was also dog poo at the back of our pitch and no one near us had a dog.
Pitch was also on a hill.

Lovely stay at site, would definitely come again.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely site, with great views of rolling hills, well tended and maintained. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere without any fuss or bother.

Facilities spotless and well presented.

Within just a few miles of the Torbay towns and other useful resorts.

Disliked There’s nothing bad here, however just a few points…

The last mile of the journey is down a very narrow lane and I shudder to think what would happen if two caravans met in the middle! Don’t take any wrong turns either or you’ll simply get stuck.

Push button showers are pants. You cannot select a temperature and it’s really irritating.

Ultra thin toilet paper is also a really stupid cheapskate idea about has to be used ‘by the metre’

The pitches slope quite severely, how about a few bits of wood to borrow for levelling?

The amenities block was very clean with really good space especially within…

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The amenities block was very clean with really good space especially within shower cubikciles

Disliked 1- nobody greets you on check in and was not clear at all on pitch location just a a4 on a window. - constructive a notice board road side with A3 paper with details on if reception is going to be unmanned

2- the reception is only open between 9-11 am. There is no presence of any staff on the site at all. - constructive a pager button or phone at the reception could resolve that if man power is low.

3- the bar is only open on special occasions so if you were hoping for a nice cider from the site you are staying on is very unlikely to happen - constructive make this clear in the bookings and clearly display openings times somewhere visible.

4- the amenities block was too far away from the tent grass pitches with no electric. - constructive a portable toilet block by the top hedgerow would be more than suitable

5- tent pitches are very small and bunched everyone up together not the best use of space - constructive slight re design and more freedom for non electric campers

From the manager: I am sorry that our campsite didn't meet your expectations, however in response to your 'dislikes'
1. When reception is closed your pitch number is given on the reception door with a visible map below showing its location and of all the facilities available. We also have a very large notice board ,roadside, with a very large map and any notices put up for each day.
You are also given this information at the time of booking.
2. Reception is currently only open 9-11am as we are in low season and due to lower numbers it is not necessary for it to be manned all day at present. When the site gets busier we are open all day everyday. We also have staff working onsite every day with the general upkeep of the site, cutting grass, cleaning amenities and general maintenance so not sure how you didn't see anyone.
3. We do not advertise having a bar onsite as we only open it during peak season on a Friday and Saturday night. Cider is always available to buy onsite either from the reception area or from the cider shop which is open from 9am-5pm Mon-Fri.
4. Our amenities block is situated in the middle of the campsite making it accessible easily for all pitches, apologies if a 60 step walk is too far for you.
5. All our pitches are the same size and can easily accommodate twin axle caravans with awnings and a car so would have more than enough room for even the biggest of tents and a car.

Local attractions

The Devon village of Stoke Gabriel is about a mile from the site and has a supermarket, pubs, a shop, a post office and gentle riverside ambles along the Dart to ancient village streets or the old apple orchard. Pick up some crabbing gear and head for the Stoke Gabriel quay to catch a few specimens; this is a well-known crabbing area and just the spot to teach the kids how to master the art. If boats are your bag, hire a vessel to sail up the river to Totnes or catch the ferry downstream to Dittisham, opposite Agatha Christie’s old home and inspiration at the Greenway Estate – no need to keep your eyes peeled for somewhat spectacular river views. From here you can go on to Dartmouth, where the river releases to the sea, and stop off for an afternoon’s shopping or to see Dartmouth Castle, one of a pair of forts protecting the mouth of the Dart Estuary and part of a harbour cruise from Dartmouth to Kingswear. Safe and spotless beaches abound within a few minutes’ drive of Broadleigh, from the award-winning sands of Goodrington, the closest beach to the site, to nearby Brixham and Torquay among other family-friendly sandy fare. If the weather’s a little damp, Goodrington’s Seashore Centre has free admission and info on the history of the 22-mile stretch of the English Riviera. Broadleigh lies roughly halfway between Plymouth and Exeter, both within about 40 minutes’ drive.
